1. The 4th and 5 play on Arizona’s first drive. We didn’t plug the middle and they scored a 45 yard TD. If we stopped them we have good field position and likely go up 14-0. This would have changed the momentum of the game and hurt Arizona’s confidence.
2. The holding penalty on the long pass to Covey. We would have had 1st and ten in the red zone instead of 2nd and twenty deep in our own territory. We ended up punting.
3. The blocked punt that turned into a scoop and score.
Had we not made boneheaded mistakes on these plays – the game would likely have been a blowout. The defense also made three boneheaded penalties on third and long that extended Arizona drives. The fact is – we made these mistakes and did not create any turnovers. Consequently, we made it a close game. Statistically, we blew them out. It was the most penalties we have had all season. We cannot afford so many mistakes next week and expect to win.
I believe we will indeed correct these mistakes.
