So is Mike your uncle, or your dad, or something else? My dad wrote for the Trib for 30 years, and as I kid, I remember Mike being the emcee for the summer family picnic every year up at Washington Park.
Mike’s my dad. I was at those parties up there. Loved it, especially the softball game and the hot dog eating contests. That was Americana all the way.
Wow. No kidding. We were definitely there together. I loved the raffles of all the promo albums and other crap that the Trib critics got for review and ultimately didn’t keep for themselves. I won some interesting albums, some I really came to love. I worked with Janet Thomas (Verdo’s wife) for many many years, and crossed paths with Mike at the Marriott Library Ski functions. My folks are still friends with the Thomases and have gone on cruises together. By the way, how’s your dad doing these days?
Oh yeah I got a bunch of those albums. I remember getting one from some strange band named Led Zepplin. Had a full on tit photo on the cover. Quite stunning for a young male. My dad’s doing ok. Retired. Has a few ailments as would be expected for someone hin his 80’s.
