Mohamound is a transfer from the University of Florida. He has said that moving from Florida was a business decision to play for a team contending for a confernce championship, yet looking for a starter at LB. When Devin Lloyd went to the NFL, Diabate packed his bags for SLC.
In 2021 the Auburn, Alabama native logged 89 tackles (2.5 TFL) with 4 QB hurries for the Gators. Over his 3-year tenure at Florida he recorded 176 total tackles (14.0 TFL, 6.0 sacks), Diabate arrived on campus in Spring semester so he’s had time to meld into the Ute defense and is listed as a starter at the Mac LB position when the Utes take on his former teammates Saturday.
Ja’Quinden is a dual-threat QB, originally from Dallas where he led Duncanville HS to two straight state title games. In his senior year he racked up 2741 combined yards (1711 by air (100-163, 21 TD, 5 INT), 1030 on the ground (93 carries, 11.1 ypc, 16 TDs). JJ earned High School All-American and First-Team All-State accolades and a 4-star recruiting rating. Jackson began his college career at the University of Texas, where he was on the roster for one season (2020) without seeing action. He arrived at Utah in 2021 and played in 3 games, recording 6 carries for 30 yds (5.0 ypc) and 1 TD. For 2022 he is not listed on the two-deep chart for the opener but may appear in special situations such as goal-line and short-yardage bootleg situations.
