Everyone knows the story of the 2021 season with Cam “Bad Moon” Rising entering for Brewer in the SDSU game and leading the Utes to a Pac-12 Championship. Overall, for the season, he started 11 games, played in 13, racking up 2493 passing yards (204-320, 12.2 ypc), throwing 20 TDs with just 5 INTs. On the ground he ran for 499 yds on 74 carries (6.7 ypc) and tacked-on 6 TDs. In recognition of that, Cam was named to the Pac-12 All Conference Team and was Pac-12 Offensive Player of Week twice (vs USC and ASU). Cam was coming off a shoulder injury and reportedly was not 100% strength last year. With further rehab and strengthening, his best may be yet to come. For 2022 he has been named to Pac-12 Preseason First Team and is on several award watchlists, including Davey OBrien, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, Manning Award, Maxwell Award, among others.
Van is a local from Corner Canyon HS in Draper and was rated a 4-star recruit after his senior season for the Chargers when he had 88 tackles (24.0 TFL, 13.5 sacks) and one forced fumble. Van was named first team All-State and All-Region for two years. He also was the state HS shot-put champion. At Utah he played in all 5 games his first year, 2020, and became a starter at DE in 2021. In 2021 he logged 41 tackles (9.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks) and 4 QB hurries. Van should continue to be a force on the defensive line in 2022. He has been named to the pre-season All-Conference First Team, Athlon Sports & Phil Steele All-Conference 2nd Team.
