I remember in about 1965, Welti and James moved from channel 4 to 5 to join Dick Nourse.  This created the Nourse, Welti, and James nightly news.  This group stayed together for something like 30 years.

A side note.  Paul James had been Utah’s play-by-play guy until the move to KSL.  When he went to channel 5 he went on to be the BYU play-by-play guy.  He did that for 35 years.

My Grandma played bridge with James until he passed away. She’s no longer with us either. Dang I’m getting old.

James was my neighbor. He was always nice to talk to and was a good sport each November when the Ute fraternity would decorate his lawn prior to the TDS game.
