Recent numerical models are delaying the time for Gordon to make its turn to the Northeast. Things are looking up for those with plans for arrival and activities in Chicago Friday into Saturday morning. This however puts the heaviest rain bands, those to the north and east of the center of the remains of Gordon, into cerntral and northern Illinois on late Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening.
There are still some solutions that keep the heaviest rain mostly out of northern Illinois, pushing the center of Gordon more to east than northeast. The official Hurricane Center track forecast (and those NHC guys know this best) keeps a northeast-moving track, no turn to the due east.
