5* Sam Huard and 4* Ethan Calvert have both committed out of the portal. There’s also rumors that 4* WR Lonyatta Alexander will commit.
That’s quite the haul for an FCS program
FBS programs aren’t the only ones reaping benefits from the portal. The NFL is drafting guys from FCS teams so it’s not necessarily a bad idea to move to a top tier FCS program vs a bottom FBS one.
Is a player’s HS rating even relevant at this point? They couldn’t break into the active roster on their respective teams, in Utah’s case filled with “3*” players, so not sure what that makes their actual college rating today, 2.5-star?
It’s not relevant. That’s why players are given transfer ratings. I am sure if Ethan or Huard were re-evaluated they would be low 3 Stars (80-83). That’s what a lot of our guys got like Jackson, Curry, Pledger, Howard, and more former 4-5 stars that didn’t get time at their initial schools.
Wonder if Cal Poly is considering a jump to FBS, perhaps to replace SDSU in the MWC if they jump to the P12?
The WAC and the Atlantic Sun conferences are going to merge and form a 10 team FBS conference in either 2025 or 2026. Cal Poly isn’t one of the schools but Utah Tech and Southern Utah are.
This is exciting. Would you please post a source article for this info?
This article indicates that the merger will be a D-IAA (FCS) conference.
Thank you.
