True freshman Trevor Lawrence will start this week for Clemson, replacing Kelly Bryant, who only lead Clemson to an 11-1 regular season, ACC championship, and trip to the playoffs last season.
I feel like the QB position under Whit is a “win it in August and it’s yours all season” kind of situation, while every other position is a weekly battle to see who starts and who plays.
If the offense can’t get going this Saturday I have zero faith that there will be any change.
Terrence Cain Jordan Wynn. Kendall Thompson Travis Wilson.
Twice in 14 years. Do you really think we’ll see Shelley if the offense stalls under Huntley?
How many times has Clemson done this in the past 14 years?
Who cares, the point is if a team coming off a playoff appearance can replace their underperforming returning QB with a FR why can’t Utah?
Because our recruits aren’t as good.
Whit’s problem is he has too good of a memory. He won’t start a FR QB because he believes they spoiled Wynn’s career by throwing him in too early. He won’t play two QBs because Tommy Grady threw a pick 6 vs UCLA.
I’d just like the coaches to be as willing to make a change at the QB position, if the starter is underperforming, as they are with every other position on the field.
I will say Trevor Lawrence was the number on prospect last year…so it could be that Clemson has an embarrassment of riches at the QB position.
Alabama replace a two year starter at halftime of the National Championship. We all know what happened.
Yeah. I agree. If Shelley isn’t ready, the question is why not?
It is crazy to think that he could actually Redshirt this year, and then play next year. Or he could transfer and play somewhere else next year.
But if he plays one more play this year then he will be done after the season.
Kelly Bryant is now transferring, saying that the demotion was a “slap in the face”.
Clemson better hope that freshman is lights out. Otherwise…
It wasn’t just Clemson using second QBs:
Notre Dame’s offense found its groove after Brian Kelly benched Brandon Wimbush in favor of Ian Book, who torched Wake Forest for 368 yards and five touchdowns. Miami’s offense took off with N’Kosi Perry replacing Malik Rosier, too. Perry completed 14 of his first 15 throws while leading the Canes to a 31-17 win over FIU. And while Clemson certainly hasn’t officially turned the page on Kelly Bryant, it was Trevor Lawrence who looked sharp, tossing four TDs in a win over Georgia Tech.
