If it is about the fire risk then we should be banning cigarette statewide as well. Cigarettes are perhaps the leading cause of wildfires.

Lightning burns the most acres nationwide. Brakeshoes and Powerlines are even higher.

I say ban them just because people are ANNOYING as hell with them. I am all about being less annoying. I don’t think it is about patriotism or any inalienable right either. I don’t even like the organized shows and the cost associated with them. Don’t even get me started on parades….GET OFF MY LAWN!

1. Fire risk
2. Pollution
3. PTSD for vulnerable groups
4. Smell like crap
5. Causes dogs to get lost
6. Lack of sleep for an entire nation that has to go to work the next morning

Fireworks pros:
1. They’re pretty

The problem is that the one pro can be negated by just going to a professional show, so there’s really no reason for regular folks to use fireworks, even when there’s not a drought going on.

I’ve found that Utahns are pyros. Must be something about the culture here.  Fire and icecream. If there is a ban, many here will ignore it.

Weird. After I moved to California from Utah, I was shocked that we had people illegally launching fireworks in the air all year long here. Something I never experienced in Utah. Maybe things have changed since 2006.
