Below are quotes from Steve Tate and Reno Mahe this morning. I love football and have been watching this rivalry for over 50 years. But, this is a reminder to me to keep everything in perspective. Think of the people in Houston and now Florida. Think of those suffering from cancer. I want Utah to win big on Saturday. However, I need to keep it all in perspective. These two men have both lost a young child this last year.
“My view on the rivalry, my view on sports in general, has changed,” Tate said. “Man, it’s great, but it’s a game. I’m competitive, but I realize it’s meaningless. At the end of the day, there’s just so much more in this world that’s going on that’s so much bigger than that.”
Mahe agrees.“You realize how insignificant certain things are,” he said. “I say that with respect. This is a job. It’s my job and it’s a job I love to do, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s entertainment.”
additionally if we win or lose be gracious, and after a day or two let it go.
I barely survived being a Ute fan as a kid in the 70’s and 80’s.
This is a very good point. The kids growing up byu fans today have the same type of situation we had when we were children with our team losing ‘bigly’ every year, and getting humiliated by Brother Jensen down the road for chearing for the Utes.
It is not acceptable to perpetuate the same treatment we received from the dillhole byu fans onto the next generation.
But revenge feels sooooooo good.
Of course it does. All I am saying is we should rub it in on fans who are older than 21…
Winning is sweet revenge. I don’t rub anything in unles provoked. Then the gloves are off.
Completely agree there is no reason to get in a Y fan’s face when you can goad so much more effectively by being condescending. That means talk down to them. 😉
Just read the article, and I realized sometimes I take sports too serious as well. But they are a great escape at times.
If you haven’t read the article here is a link, for those who don’t mind getting a bit squishy.
