      Chris Hill:

We worked everything out but the money and they said, “When can you start?” Colorado was going to have to wait a year but we said, “We’ll start now.” They said, “You won’t get any money.” And we said, “We don’t care.” We wanted to get it done before any kind of political pressure hit us – anybody in the state trying to say we couldn’t do it.

      Larry Scott:

Because they had their own stakeholders to deal with: boards of trustees, regents, politicians, donors, that a lot of public speculation would not be helpful and could derail things. So the more quiet, the better from the university side.

      Michael Young:

So, we worked out this deal very quickly, where we would get a half share, then a three quarter share, then a full share, which really was respectful of the equity they’d built in the brand but also our limitation of not wanting either politically or financially to make a buy in to a big conference.

Those three quotes from those three men are shocking. It is sad that they had to do everything under the cover of darkness due to fear of politicians blocking a public university from bettering itself. That is why we play BYU every year.

I work for the U and I can tell you that this is still a huge problem and it affects even more than the athletic department. My department was audited by the state last year (first time ever). They had no findings. Zero. So guess what? We’re getting audited again this year! Cost to the taxpayer for each audit? $350,000. And all driven by a congressional committee made up 100% by BYU-P grads. They are truly a millstone around our necks.

Guess I’d better get back to work before the audit shows I collected pay while spending 15 minutes on UteHump.

Yup. The loyalties are with the temple oaths and not their political oaths. It’s pathetic. Not weird at all. Those people threatened to take away funding to the hospital if we didn’t play BYU.

They literally decided that the lives of Utahns weren’t as important as playing BYU. It’s a joke.
