Replay is taking away the excitement of ‘The Big Play’. Enjoy.

Replay has taken away from the excitement of NFL GAMES IN GENERAL.   It makes them longer; it seems like lawyers have come in as if to debate what “is” is.  Did he “complete the catch”, “make a football move”, “become a runner”? WTF?? The ball was in his hand and he reached with it across the goal line.  Its not like he bobbled it across the goal line or batted it across.

Replay was supposed to correct obvious gaffes, requiring the need for overwhelming evidence to overturn the decision on the field, because, yes, even the best of the best officials make mistakes, don’t have the right viewing angle, etc, but usually at this level their first look is right.   Now with dozens of angles and super slow-mo you have people looking at millimeter gaps between a players hands and ball and saying well, maybe, he wasn’t actually in control of the ball.

I think they should add a timer on them.  Especially in the NCAA. Start a timer basically when your face is under the hood you have 3 minutes to look at it. Then 2 minutes to discuss it amongst the officials to get the right call.  The only exceptions are when you have to find the correct spot and also gameclock.

I agree. 45 secs. If you can’t make a decision in that time period, it’s inconclusive and on field call stands.

Replay officials should only be allowed to watch the replay in full speed (no slow motion/frame-by-frame) and should only be allowed to watch each camera angle twice. If they are looking for obvious mistakes, you’ll see them at full speed and within one or two views. If you can’t tell, then it isn’t obvious and move the game along.
