Is there a doctor in the house? Wondering if I’ve only sprained my thumb or done more damage. Been 6 days since initial injury where it was bent way beyond how far it should normally go. Hurt like hell. That night couldn’t move it. Got range of motion back, but pain at the last 25% of the range. Very sore pain if I put pressure on it at the base of the humb. Have 80% strength back, but certain angles hurt pretty bad right at the base joint.
I am no doctor. I know that something like that happened to me years ago and I was in pain for most of the next 6 months. I could use it fine and the swelling went down after a week or so, but was in pain for a long time. I hope your thumb heals faster than mine.
Tony, have you tried western medicine for this issue?
I’m assuming you mean essential oils
Noni Juice. It’s a cure-all.
I’m not a doctor but it sounds like Skier’s Thumb. If it’s bad enough you’ll need surgery to fix it. I injured my thumb like that a few years ago and didn’t regain full use of my thumb for several months. Sometimes it still gives me trouble.
Agree with Utethunder. Sounds like skiers thumb or “gamekeepers thumb”. Involves a tear of the Ulnar collateral ligament at the base of thumb (pinky side). Ligament can retract and not heal well.
I would try and see an orthopedic doc. They commonly get an MRI to look for this.
Good Luck!
Thanks guys. Going to doc today.
damnit, am I too late to suggest putting it in a bowl of rice overnight?
Already tried that
Once I hurt a finger in the same way, landed badly jumping off a ladder to avoid stepping on a shrub. Can’t do this to your thumb, but I taped it to its neighbor for awhile. Turned purple, but I could tell the bone was not broken. After about 6-8 weeks I went to a hand specialist because it still hurt if I gripped in a certain way or put pressure on it. I thought that should be totally healed by then. Doctor took x-ray — the bone was indeed fine, just cartilage damage. The doctor told me it would heal on its own but it might hurt for up to TWO YEARS. I said, “Two years???”, he said, yes, believe me it will take a long time to completely go away. And he was right! It gradually got less-and-less sensitive and after 1.5 to 2 years no pain at all.
