Look where Poeltl is at when Kuzma beats his defender. Good move by Kuzma but this is also the classic big man goes to help out from opposite or weak side (after primary defender totally gets burned without slowing the ballhandler down whatsoever) and the big man looks like he got dunked on because he’s so tall. But he really didn’t get dunked on, Poeltl is trying to drop from the top of the key to the baseline in 2 steps and can’t get there in time. So I wouldn’t say he got dunked on….but rather Kuzma beat the help defense to the rim.
Also, look at where the other Toronto big is at compared to Poeltl…much closer, and he didn’t even try. Props to Poeltl for moving so well and at least giving it some hustle.
Well said, give me a center that gets on a poster or two any day of the week. It means he’s contesting shots and occasionally he’ll get dunked on, just comes with the territory.
Exactly. This happens to Gobert all the time. A guy drives middle and Gobert cuts that off, they pass to Gobert’s man on the weak side and Gobert retreats to cut that off, meanwhile a guy cuts baseline from the corner on the opposite side behind Gobert, the O player catches and goes for the dunk and Gobert is just turning around to try and cut that off with a desparation block and it looks like he’s getting dunked on because he’s so tall, but really he had no chance, was helping out for the 3rd time in one play.
This is getting dunked on:
I was there when Josh dunked over 7’6″ Shawn

Exactly, Joh pump faked at the 3 point arc, beat his defender and came stright downhill at Bradley. What is the name of Bradley’s 30 for 30 documentary?
Or this where you don’t even contest the shot:
Bradley’s 30 for 30 should be titled, “The height that lead to the lowpoint in BYU basketball.” I’ve always thought Shawn Bradley did more to set BYU basketball back then Roger Reid, Steve Cleveland and Tony Ingle ever could have combined. And let’s not forget they went 1-25 under Reid/Ingle. Reid started out 1-6 and Ingle finished out 0-19. Yet they all still love him, he seemed to be one of the laziest players ever, and never really developed his game, but he stayed tall which worked out pretty good for him.
These things do tend to happen when you’re the one guy on your team who plays defense.
