As usual, not much new came out of the press conference.  When asked about injuries, he indicated that he “hopes” everyone will be back this week.  Did not say anything specific about any of the players who did not play last week.

He said USC is loaded with 4 and 5 star athletes.  (Nothing new here.)

He was happy with the way Huber played at safety and that he is capable of playing both safety positions.

He indicated that the fact we have not beaten USC in LA since 1916 doesn’t mean anything and no one is thinking about it.

He said that Utah has had played less plays than any other team in the PAC12.  He said that them playing slow causes this and that it is a good thing for the players.  He said, by the end of the season, his players may play up to 200 less plays and that is huge.

That’s interesting.  I’d never really thought about it that way, but it makes sense.  The fewer plays an athlete runs, the lower his chances for injury, thus enabling a longer season.  Remember former Utah QB Brett Elliot (2002-03)?  He got injured on the last play of the game at Texas A&M.  Had Utah ran 1 fewer play that day, maybe he never gets hurt.

Just because we wound up with Alex Smith as a result doesn’t change the fact that 1 fewer play might have saved Elliot’s season.  Just sayin’…
