12. Utah
Non-conference lineup:at Brigham Young, vs. Northern Illinois, vs. Illinois State
Toughest stretch:Oct. 19 vs. Arizona State, Oct. 26 vs. Cal, Nov. 2 at Washington
Misses:Stanford and Oregon
Comment: Utes benefit from the switch in cross-division rotations, dodging two North heavyweights. They took the arduous road to the South title last season. In 2019, the path is greased. That said, the non-conference lineup will be an issue if they sneak into the playoff conversation.
Totally fine with Utah’s easier schedule, we’ve had some tough ones recently.
It would be awesome if somehow Stanford put together an amazing season to go undefeated or just one loss, heading into the CCG against an undefeated Utah.
Thank you Chris Hill!
I personally think the weaksauce OOC schedule is a great thing for us. We aren’t talking about making the playoff, so who really cares about our SOS? Winning ball games and staying healthy is what matters. If we go undefeated, we’ll have a shot at the playoff, but going undefeated is not going to happen.
When we are winning south div. championships 2 of every 4 years, and Pac 12 championships 1 every three years or so, we can start worrying about playoff implications.
Agreed – on paper, eight months out it seems so. On the other hand, WSU, CAL, ASU and Utah for that matter, were not seen as big threats last year, to the demise of OR, USC and AZ.
Regardless, the 2019 season lines up as a great opportunity for Utes to repeat as South Division champs, and beating OR, UW or Stanford for the Championship. Lots of hard work and focus over the next seven months, but looking forward to Moss, Huntley, Anae and Bernard lining up and cracking a few heads this fall – starting with BYU in Provo.
Illinois State, baby.
The Redbirds aren’t on our schedule
