Kind of surprised that there isn’t more chatter on this. I don’t think the local (less than creative) media really asked Whitt much about this. Lets help out. Who are the candidates nationally that might work?
wanted, coach of highly disciplined team, high maintenance demanding coach, with great defense. OCs here are like Spinal Tap drummers, but U can break the trend. Terrific offensive line.
He choked on vomit.
You can’t dust for vomit.
At least we haven’t had an OC spontaneously combust yet. Or have we? Perhaps I’ve blocked it from memory.
they’ve just been killed in bizarre gardening accidents. The authorities said it best left unsolved…
Scott Mitchell
I want someone who can recruit. I think Mitchell knows less about recruiting than TT.
Why? Because he played at Utah and he’s on the radio?
They did say on the radio today that some of the guys interested in the job are big names that people would know. They didn’t go into any names but KW said that people would know some of the guys being considered.
And yet, we’ll probably settle for Harding.
I remember when we had some big names interested in the job and Kyle hired Brian Johnson.
Maybe, Gary Andersen wants the job?
Not so sure it will be Harding, otherwise would not Whittingham have already announced? My bet is they’re considering candidates, who are currently preparing their current teams for a bowl. And now that the early signing period is over, what’s the immediacy.
Not necessarily. IIRC, Whittingham waited until right around signing day to announce BJ as well as A-Rod & Harding.
I don’t think Whit wants it to look like he didn’t consider all of his options.
Fair enough. But if Harding was their Number 1 choice, they would have announced. Harding may be selected, but as 2nd or 3rd choice, albeit the narrative will be that Harding was their 1st choice all along.
If I had a priority list:
1-Recruiting abilities.
2-Offensive System that can be molded to fit with the existing talent in place.
3-Rush first mentality to establish the pass.
My priority list:
1- Coaches an offensive system that is easy to implement while being both dynamic and effective.
Utah needs better recruiters I think that is a higher priority. I don’t see anything creative or innovative in college. It is just talent out performing inferior talent.
Harding fits all three of those. I know Harding was co-OC before, but that “co” is a pretty big caveat. I think Roderick had more of the reigns in play calling at the time. I think a good scenario would be Harding to OC with final say, and bring in a QB coach who can add input to the passing game. Call him a passing game coordinator if it makes sense to do so, i.e. he’s a bigger name and needs a better title than just a position coach, but I don’t like the “co” aspect where we’re never sure where the buck stops.
Bringing in someone new entirely could be great too, depending on who’s possible, but I wouldn’t be disappointed with Harding, so long as we get a good QB coach.
Called it early this week: Bryant Vincent, OC at UAB
He auditioned in the Boca Raton Bowl and greatly exceeded the Utas production vs NIU.
^ This
what about…… Dennis Erickson?
Coaching the Salt Lake Stallions in their debut season.
^^^^Above name is a serious name for a Football team not a stage name for a male Mormon stripper.
Zion Zebra would be a better stripper name.
I can tell you have given this some thought.
Haven’t we all?
