Dalton Kincaid turned down around $1,000,000 and a about a 50% chance at a title, to stay and play for Utah this year.
build him a f**king statue
Go, Utes!
Of course we’re all thrilled that he stayed but this WILL be a problem in the future. Utah Football is great at finding 3-star players and developing them into amazing talents. I have no doubt that we will lose players we developed for years, when they decide unlike Kincaid, to take the money and run. And how do you blame them if they do?
You can’t blame them if they don’t turn it down. $1M nest egg coming out of college on top of a paid for degree is life changing. We have to accept the reality and accept we would do the exact same thing if we were in their shoes.
And Utah poached him from a FCS school. Like it or not, Utah will poach kids from lesser schools and some better schools will poachkids from Utah.
The good news is, as long as there is scholarship limits, Alabama will have to kick someone off to make room for Kincaid.
It’s always been this way in college football. Utah will be ok.
You think bama would kick off someone from their team that could have a Kincaid level impact? Nah… that argument makes no sense. Also, at schools where they can pay you 1mil, a schollie means very little. Let him walk on, but a booster pays him 1mil+tuition costs and he’s essentially another scholarship guy without counting against the limit.
Not really “poaching” if from an FCS team. Unless you’re saying the SEC is the next level above P5 (or P4 then SEC). An argument could be made, I suppose.
Agreed, plus USD in CA didn’t provide scholarships to their players. Everyone on the team was essentially a walk-on.
It has not always been this way. Kids were getting paid under the table, yes. Not like this. This is too much money to go unnoticed. Plus the transfer portal is only a few years old. This is way different.
