Just heard of Huard’s injury. And of course Money’s recent injury. So sorry for these kids.
Look Ufans. There’s something VERY WRONG with Whittingham’s program. This is NOT just a ‘brush it off, injuries are part of the game’ excuse. Not this many. Not like this. This cr*p is affecting kid’s lives. For you Whitt homies, this is NOT the way college football programs operate.
Rising out last 2 years major injuries; Rose out last year before the season even starts, major injury. The team QBs are all walking wounded. Most of the QB room transfers out end of last season. He**, last couple of years the entire team looks like a walking MASH Unit. This is unacceptable! Full Exclamation Point!
It’s time for us, the FANS, the fans who really care about the state of the program, to be serious about what’s happening up on the hill and to call for a change. This mismanagement has got to stop. Bluntly, Whitt’s time is up! Thanks Whitt, but it’s time for you to move on!!

.. sorry not putting that one on Whitt

I am putting it on him as far as he makes the calls on the strength and conditioning staff and trainers. There is more that can be done to help prevent injuries. They are going to happen, but to this extent for this long? Something is up.
-
Utah#1Participant
welp, let’s just say this…Whitt is to blame for everything wrong with the program right now! when it rains it pours. he gets paid millions $$$ to solve problems and put a quality football team on the field and not have a program in disarray because he’s not being transparent with the players and the fanbase. players speaking out on social media how they felt and their body language on the field says it all.
-
HATUmanParticipant
Why not? He has allowed Elaisa to run Olympic powerlifting sessions mid season… that’s just stupid. That’s perfectly fine to do in the off season, but mid season you’re asking for injuries. Sure, injuries are a part of the sport… but only to a certain extent. When a team seems to have major injury issues year in and year out, you have to start looking for causation. There is no excuse why our QBs have such a terrible history of being injured. I remember seeing a campus news article that had mentioned the same thing during the Travis Wilson years. The coach absolutely has to take some of the blame here.

2008 National ChampParticipant
QB’s get hurt. It’s the nature of the position and why so many rules are in place trying to prevent it.
Since 2017, the only years the opening day starter didn’t miss at least one game for injury were 2019 & 2021. Huntley played hurt from game 4 on and Brewer was a concussion waiting to happen. That’s a 25% success rate and none of the QB injuries were lifting related.

SteelUteParticipant
I get your tired of Whit- but for injuries? What could he have done to prevent Risings myriad of injuries? Money Parks injury! These aren’t muscle strains or conditioning injuries. Football is a violent contact sport, and if that’s not your thing there are other sports up at the U that may be more enticing to you.
-
CityCreekUteParticipant
umm prove that we have statistically more injuries across the team and that you’re not just noticing it more because you pay attention to Utah and not the 130 other programs.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
it’s up to you to do the research and prove his theory wrong
-
UtegatorParticipant
Its hard to say what the cause is because of the well known lack of transparency. BUT it seems like a lot of these injuries happen in practice.
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
I don’t know why Utah is having so many injuries after spending the late 2010’s seemingly with no injuries to key players, especially on defense. It might not even have anything to do with the S&C since the gymnasts seemed to go through a period where they’d lose a couple of girls every year to Achilles tears.
-
-
HeyyyUguyyysParticipant
I’m not sure that’s how theories work
-
2008 National ChampParticipant
that’s how the peer review process works. otherwise, it’s just opinion v opinion and neither has to prove a thing to the other. but I did find it rich that the 2nd person felt the need to tell the OP that he needed to research and prove his opinion while providing nothing of his own.
-
leftyjaceParticipant
The peer review process is conducted upon the original theory that is presented. The person that presents the theory includes evidence of the proof of his theory, and it gets reviewed.
Telling the person who is doing the review that he has to post proof that the original theory is wrong without expecting the person who posted the original theory to back up his claims with evidence seems a little out of order to me.

Every team suffers injuries during the season. Look at BYU. Their top two RBs miss multiple games. Their offensive line has been shuffled this season. Hard to blame a coach when every other team goes through this during the year.

HATUmanParticipant
And just how in hell do you expect someone to prove that? For one, we don’t even know who is and who isn’t injured. We just barely found out Huard has a season ending injury and has surgery “some weeks back”. Our coach won’t discuss it. I will tell you this. My best friend works closely with coach Whitt, and I won’t say what he does, but he works in healthcare. He had a conversation with coach Whitt discussing his concerns with how the S&C program is run. Whitt is loyal to his friends, I’ll give him that. But he told my friend that Doug Elisaia has been doing his thing for some time and basically told my friend to mind his own business. Someone with a doctoral degree in understanding Kinesiology, Anatomy and Physiology, vs a guy with a bachelors degree in physical education with a MINOR in Athletic Training… give me a damn break. I received my first degree in Athletic Training from the U, I didn’t Minor in it, but my bachelor level understanding of the human body was paltry compared to what my current understanding is. Maybe Doug isn’t the guy. Maybe we need someone who understands functional movement, and has an understanding of rest vs fatigue, strength maintenance vs gains, and training periodization. And that absolutely is 100% on Whitt to have the right guy for that.

press-onParticipant
Ah, the insults from my fellow Utes. And the Cliches! Is that the best you’ve got, “part of the game”?
There are injuries… but not like this boys. Maybe you think Huard tripped on his shoelaces? He hasn’t even sniffed the field.
Strength and Conditioning is a huge suspect. Technique, also a big one. There are a ton of reasons. Whitt’s job is to ‘FIGURE IT OUT’ and fix it! Minimize the losses! And to then to have BACKUPS when they do happen. He’s got nothin goin on. Only excuses. The cupboards are empty. Open your eyes guys!
Whitt’s got to gp!

You should go listen to Weddle’s interview from a few weeks back with OC. Weddle talks about this. From someone that had a long career and minimal major injuries, I take his word over others (did you even play college football or football in general 🙄). He says this isn’t a Whitt problem or S&C coach problem… Did you watch Cam’s injury, Moneys? Zero to do with S&C. Did you see all the NFL players out the past three weeks with season ending injuries…
Step away from the computer-
Roy RangumParticipant
Crash: Did Weddle say what he thought could be leading to injuries? Is it really just bad luck?
I do agree with the original poster that it feels like we are above average for injuries, and I similarly feel like we should be definitely at least re-evaluating our strength and conditioning.
-
stboneParticipant
For the most part, these don’t seem to be S&C-type injuries. E.g., we aren’t seeing torn/pulled hamstrings. There is some argument for how you handle quads contributing to knee stability, but a little extra knee stability only gets you so far when somebody flies into the side of your knee or rolls-up your leg.
-
crash11Participant
Roy, he said kids these days aren’t hitting the weights etc like they used to.
Into more main stream things instead of just plain ol hard work and strength training. Much more to it….Maybe Tony can link it here. It’s on ESPN700 podcast. He comes on every Thursday. This was from the Thursday before the Houston game if I remember correctly.

HATUmanParticipant
I love Weddle, but his profession was “professional football player” As someone that works in healthcare I trust his opinion on this about as much as you should trust my armchair QB skills.

HeyyyUguyyysParticipant
So, humor me for a second. I’m not even asking for facts. Theories alone are fine at this point. What is the suspicion as to what could be causing this? Throwing a generic term out there like players are getting hurt because of “strength and conditioning” doesn’t actually mean anything. Strength and conditioning are what is done to get more physically resilient, not less.
So what is the thought? That Whitt is not having people lift weights enough? Having people lift too much? Not running enough? Running too much? Isn’t feeding people? Feeding people too much? Feeding people fake food that builds weak bodies? Pushing harmful supplements? Not letting them rest?
Does any of this sound right? Do you really think if we lined up the strength and conditioning protocols for every team in college football that Utah would really be that different? Put your emotions aside and just think about it logically for five seconds. I agree that Utah’s injuries seem like a lot over the past couple of years, but do we actually know that that’s true in comparison? Whitt has been the coach for like 147 years and his teams rarely have seemed to have more injuries than the next team until the past two years. Did he make some significant change in the way he approaches everything in the last two years?

Press-on I just looked at your past posts and you haven’t had a positive post all season. Feel free to mix in something positive once in awhile. You seem angry and very opinionated. This program needs support right now.

Blaming Whit for players getting hurt? Do you think he’s out there whacking knees with a bat Tonya Harding-style?

Maybe they’d kick it up a notch if he walked around practice with a bat…

lgt4141Participant
If there wasn’t the 2 year saga of Cam Rising’s injuries would we even notice how many players are injured?
It seems like almost every CFB and NFL game you watch somebody gets injured and leaves the game.
As fans I get that with seasons that don’t meet expectations we look for everything we can as an excuse.
This year does not seem to be as bad as last year with the injuries but I can’t prove that.

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I’ve read on the internet. Take a step away and take a deep breath.

Rick WalkerParticipant
If the players don’t want to risk an injury then they shouldn’t play football. Unfortunately for you they do wanna play and will take that risk
-
Red RhinoParticipant
Why are people so rude to others on this forum to people who have a different opinion? I’ve said this before, if we all thought the same, this forum would be very boring. Why take the time to write that a post is ridiculous when you can just turn the page or ignore it? Why attack the poster? If you’re going to write something rude, “step away”.
