I hoped when Jensen was hired that we could tap into the Hanno Mattola pipeline. They played together from 97-99. I am not sure that this came through his connection with Hanno, but I think we will see a number of Finnish players at Utah during the Jensen era. (Mattola is a coach on the Finnish national team.)

This roster is looking good! By far the most athletic team the Utes have had in years maybe ever. AJ is tuned in and knows exactly how he wants the team to look. First time in years I’m excited for BB season. This team has a Houston feel to it. AJ will develop these athletes into team and role players. I like our 6’8 6’9 athletic post men that can jump and block shots.

He looks quick. Seems to play really hard on defense which I like. Some of those steals in the highlights were really nice.

He’s thick like Colllier and a “bulldog” on defense and when driving to the hoop.

Very exciting! Kid knows how to get to the rim and seems to have a high motor to go with some nice skills.

Looks solid off the bounce. Gives effort on D. If he can shoot the three, we may have something here…

Has a lot of skills, but shooting the 3 ball isn’t one of them at this point…..Definitely needs to improve in this area.

I’m taking a wait and see approach. Miro Little was supposed to be much more of a finished product, and we saw how that relationship turned out. This guy is younger and much less experienced than Little. If he can play 8-10 productive minutes a game in his first season, I’d call that a win. Another thing about videos like this…keep in mind that he’s playing against guys who are all of his age and maturity level, and not against guys who might be 3-5 years older, as is currently the rage in the NIL world.

To be fair, they are/were both Finnish products (see what I did there :P)

Seriously though, I’m disappointed that neither Mike nor Miro ever really got a solid shot. Like everything else with Craig, it just seemed like another revolving door. So I don’t know that we really know how Miro would have finished up the season if he had been getting 25 to 30 min per game through the whole season.

That said, I also remember looking at the highlights from Miro’s international play and don’t remember him having this lengthy of a tape showing this much aggressive play. Granted, as you say, it’s against presumably inferior competition, but I would not be surprised in the least if it translates.

More over, it kind of has to translate, because if he comes here and doesn’t play, the likelihood is he’ll enter the portal next year and be gone. Unfortunately in this day and age, there is virtually no ROI you can assign to investing in a future player (certainly not a guaranteed one). So if they aren’t productive from the hop, then you really don’t know what their are worth to the program will be and you kind of have to assume it to be zero.
