Utes Will Be Part of CFB History

Utah will now play in the last ever traditional Rose Bowl. Next year the Rose is part of the CFP on its three year rotation. And it will be in the CFP from there on due to the new CFP format starting in 2024. I am not sure of the details, but the Rose will certainly lose the Big/PAC matchup, unless luck aligns the teams that way. And it will also lose its guaranteed new year’s day time slot.

It feels appropriate to end this way. Utah is a throwback team, playing smash-mouth football, with an old-school coach, and a team family approach. The perfect way to close out the history of the Grandaddy of them all.

It is sort of ironic that Utah beat USC to get the honor of the last traditional Rose Bowl.

USC is the favored son of the Rose Bowl. They live in the same neighborhood and have all the championships and Heismans. They have played in the Rose Bowl 34 times, more than anyone.

But they sold their football tradition birthright for team “free agent” and BIG money. And the old ways of college football rose up and smote them down.
