A number of players on this year’s team have no choice, their time is up, e.g., Kincaid, Enis, Dixon, Gabe Reid, Kaufusi, Hubert, Diabate, etc.
But, what will happen with these guys?
Phillips – likely gone IMO
Kuithe – I have no idea. He will not be in shape to participate in the combine, so who knows?
Rising – Most people say that he will be gone. But, it appears that he is a 6th round pick at best. Will he go?
Broughton – I think he stays
Vele – He is starting to get some national; attention, but I think he stays.
Thomas – If he wants a pro career, he had better come back and get his head in the game.
Daniels and Maile – I think it is in their best interest to stay and I hope that they do.
Have any of you heard anything? What do you think?
Kuithe was for sure gone before his injury. Now? I don’t know. Who’s to say that if he came back he wouldn’t get injured again? Whatever the case, his problem, which also applies to Kincaid, is that he’s not a traditional TE because he lacks really solid blocking skills. In that respect, he’s very reminiscent of a guy like Mike Gesicki of the Miami Dolphins. That might make him less attractive to a lot of NFL teams that require their TEs to block efficiently as part of their scheme.
I was sitting with Vele’s dad at the UCLA game and he made it sound like there’s a good chance that he isn’t coming back for next year. I mean I get it, he’s 24 and a returned missionary so…
He thinks he has a chance at NFL? If he stayed another year he might have a fighting chance to get on a roster.
My uninformed predictions
Phillips: gonzo
Kuithe: gone (slightly less likely, but still highly likely)
Rising: probably gone depending on his goals/graduation status. It would be dumb to stay if he wants a career in the NFL. Next year is not going to go better for him than this year.
Broughton: Not gone
Vele: LOL no… I mean, he might, but why?
Thomas: No clue, but if he leaves, it won’t be because the NFL is calling his name.
Daniels and Maile: No idea, I don’t know the first thing about evaluating offensive linemen individually.
Broughton could benefit from going up against the #1 guy on each team next year.
