Didn’t? His unit is perennially the worst on the team. The least talented, least well coached bunch on the whole team… EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
It’s not fair to pit 3/4 star guys against 4/5 star guys on the other side? The rest of our team performed relatively well against USC and WU, and they are for the most part ranked below their counterparts at those schools. Those guys, as young and inexperienced as they are, are coached up to go blow for blow with the best recruits in the country. Why can’t Harding do the same?
Even if the recruiting ranking is to blame for the discrepancy, and not coaching ability, who is responsible for recruiting offensive line players that can’t compete with the upper tier pac12 schools? That would be Harding.
Any which way you look at it, the offensive line problems are his fault. Offensive coordinators are fired all the time when their offense doesn’t work at the UofU, usually in no small part because the offensive line doesn’t do it’s job. Why has he not been fired yet?
To be clear, if COVID has kept certain starters off the field so far, I’m willing to reserve judgement until they take the field as a unit for two or three games. If they aren’t the best offensive line Harding has ever had, he needs to go. No more excuses. NONE
Whitt fired Christensen and Arod. Who else?
I recommend you get a 247 sports account, log in, and request Steve Bartle to link you to the history he gave on 3 guys that had career ending injuries that would be upper class men this year and last. It can help give some insight into the need for youth at the position this year and last.
Soo Harding gets to use that as an excuse for being terrible, but the OC gets canned? Mmmkay bub
Which OC’s are getting canned? You wont answer that question.
I love the, “mmmk bub” as it’s a sign you cannot compete at my level in the discussion and have to resort to ad hominem. But I will hold the line that there’s more to the story that you are not in the loop about. 3 freshman, a sophomore and a junior with two guys playing out of their normal position were up 21-0 on UW. I think the future is bright.
I don’t have a 247 account but can concur that the online has had terrible bouts of bad luck.
the injuries, the Empey transfer.
then this year with Covid. it’s been a total cluster with mixing and matching parts and having to play young dudes.
they’ll get right.
remember 2016. That Harding oline was one of the best in the country. That’s how good it can get when stuff doesn’t go haywire.
weve recruited so well! We’ll get there. I’ve got faith in Harding. Let’s be patient on this insane year of Covid. Our oline will be back to wrecking fools soon enough!
That 2016 oline has 4 players drafted. We’ll get back there with Harding.
Just ignore the 2016 game vs Cal with 7 attempts from the 1 vs an undersized Dline, the WSU game with Hercules Mataafa and the 11 TFL’s, the countless RPO plays with an illegal man down field penalty, plus the 3rd and 40 game vs Arizona, but other than that yes Harding is great at teaching road graders. Unfortunately Utah isn’t Army, or Air Force where all they do is run the ball.
Ludwig left for a better OC job. Chow left for the HC job at Hawaii. Schramm was demoted to the RB coach then left for the OC job at Fresno. Johnson left voluntarily, Whitt didn’t fire him because that would have been detrimental to his career. Erickson voluntarily demoted to the RB coach because he was old and didnt want to be OC anymore. Taylor took the HC job at Sac state and it was widely publicized that Whitt tried to keep him.
So, he only fired two OC’s. The rest took other jobs.
Schramm and Johnson were essentially fired. You can argue semantics but both were told they weren’t going to be the OCs anymore.
Schramm remained on staff AFTER he was told that. He was the RB coach. Johnson, sure you can make that argument.
