Apples and oranges. Colleges only get 20 hours a week so there’s only so much they can do. And that time is only available during spring ball and the season.
There’s a reason Ludwig says it takes two offseasons to fully install his offense and Mike Leach claimed he could teach an Air Raid in an hour. You can try to do a little bit of…[Read more]

Pete Carroll, when he took over the SC job, knew that he could get all the skill players he would ever need within a 2 hour car ride of campus. What he did that fixed that program was he made recruiting the best line players in the country his top priority and then ran a scheme that allowed those players to impose their will on less talented…[Read more]

I go back to the bye week during the 2023 season. It was announced that Rising was done for the year so the splitting of the reps BS didn’t need to go on any longer. I remember saying on here that my hope was that they would look at the tape, figure out what it was that they were doing well, and then lean into it. Instead, they moved Vaki to…[Read more]

Stanley was the decoy when Parks got ploughed and would have also gotten trucked himself if it hadn’t been a fake. It was almost like TCU knew what was coming with Stanley split wide. I’m not sure how that could be since Utah does such a good job with their personnel packages to make sure that tendencies aren’t a giveaway. Guess TCU just got…[Read more]

he already had a worse record over his previous 13 games than Helton had in any 13 game period during his tenure. Amazing that damage the losing to Bryson Barnes can have on a program 🙂

Ferentz didn’t fire his son. In lieu of forcing him to fire, the AD put in his kid’s contract that if certain season averages weren’t met, his contract would be terminated. And when the bar of just being able to run a top 100 offense for one season was to big a burden, the stipulation was enforced.

Problem is the timing. Nothing significant can change this week. After that, you’ve got another bye and then the parochial school. That’s where any changes will be seen, providing Whitt doesn’t decide the answer is that the team just isn’t physical enough and gets more kids injured in practice.

the only thing I’ve been able to find is the Locked On Utes podcast where they danced around the issues for 30 minutes but still weren’t willing to come to any real conclusions.

Which is why I took away my posting privileges for 10 days after it happened. I just hadn’t seen him post since and didn’t want to do a private apology when the issue happened in public. I’m 100% team Charlie

Sure, but the relative entertainment opportunities between the two cities isn’t a new development. Any more than the fact that the state of Arizona produces more talent and Tempe is closer to Vegas and/or Southern California than Salt Lake is.
When the choice is old guy Herm v not quite so old guy Whitt (even discounting the racial aspect),…[Read more]

I’m on the same page. I want Whitt to dig himself out of the hole. But it can’t happen with his current staff. I brought up Harbaugh last week and think it’s still appropriate.
This season is done. Either announce your retirement effective at the end of the season so that Scalley can have two months before signing day to shore up this year’s…[Read more]

It’s more than just NIL though. People on here laughed about Kenny Dillingham’s postgame interview last week. Do you know who wasn’t laughing? His players. They absolutely love playing for a coach who is young, enthusiastic, doesn’t think the answer to every situation is the same one he’s been doing for the last 20 years.,,
Dillingham may…[Read more]

the 2017 parallel is apt. 3 of the 4 were when the starter went down with injury and the highly talented but woefully inaccurate backup was not able to lead the team to victory. The 4th was when the starter tried to return from injury before fully healed and had the worst game of his career.

All throughout sports history, highly successful coaches have been fired when they were no longer effective in their current situation. The notion that what you currently have is the best you can ever aspire to runs counter to everything that makes sports great.
To borrow from Biology 101, a cell in stasis is a cell that is inhibited from growing.
