the problem is that naming rights packages don’t really move the needle in terms of revenue. they amount to pennies on the dollar when you compare the exposure against what the company actually pays out.

Technically, there’s already a 5 star on the team

I hope your sources are correct. It’s just going to be a while before I take any injury reports at face value

2008 National Champ replied to the topic What's our defense looking like? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
The way that Arizona ended that game is a disgrace and poor sportsmanship.
I find these kinds of comments weird. If what you say about Arizona is true, shouldn’t Utah wear the same after the Charlie Vincent score with 8 seconds left against Arizona State?

From an outsider’s perspective, I can see why someone would think Utah would regress on D this year. Especially a fan of another team whose only experience with Utah’s D in 2023 was their team boat racing them.
3 starters gone to the draft
Replacing 4 starters at DB
Perceived 2 best LB’s either injured or coming off season ending injury
May only…[Read more] -

If there’s going to a super league failure, and it’s the kind of thinking that could keep Utah out, it’s that academic reputation matters more than program ability.
i.e, Vanderbilt and Stanford have great academic reputations and have been in the club for decades. They also have very little drawing power in their home markets, have student…[Read more]

Stanford would have to change the way they do business to be considered for inclusion

2008 National Champ replied to the topic UU Football National Champions 2024 in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
Alabama plays 8 conference games against arguably the toughest conference year in, year out plus a (usually) high profile neutral-site P5 to start the season in non-con every year.
2 G5’s and an FCS? hmmm, what other schools do that? oh yeah, > 95% do that.
Put their FCS game late in the season instead of week 1, 2 or 3 like Utah so they can…[Read more]

It’s pretty tough for Alabama to schedule “up” unless you think they should have scheduled a couple of NFL teams every year.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Will our offense in 2024 look a lot like 2021? in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
sure. Different teams will use different terminology but at a base level, there are 3 running gaps to either side of the ball. The “A” gap is between the Center and Guard, “B” is Guard/Tackle and “C” is outside the tackle. So “Inside” refers to runs designed to go between the Tackles. I’ve also been part of teams that will use A,C,E to mean…[Read more]

It’s a Ludwig offense so it’s going to look the same as every year from 2019 to 2023. How effective it will be is to be determined but the overall structure has not, and will not, change.
You’ll see a lot of inside zone/power, a lot of 12 and 13 personnel, a lot of 4 receiver routes with 3 at or short of the sticks and 1 vertical option. And…[Read more]

I’ve been tracking based on the 247 Talent Composite since 2015. The higher rated team – which Utah should be against UCF – on the road historically wins only 58.8% of P5 v P5 matchups.
For reference, Utah has won 70.6% of the time as the more talented P5 team on the road (12 out of 17), but only 1 of 3 in 2023. 1 of 4 if you consider the bowl…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Star rating system is flawed in the forum Football 1 year, 1 month ago
Devin Lloyd also played WR/S in high school where he was too slow for the position(s) to be considered a future draft pick. No one reviewing tape in their right mind looks at his HUDL and projects him to put on 30 pounds and go in the first round at LB. Just like anyone reviewing Dalton Kincaid in his one year of HS ball wouldn’t decide that…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Star rating system is flawed in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
Is it time for the annual “star ratings” don’t matter conversation already?
In the aggregate, the star ratings work. On an individual basis, there are variances so it’s easy to cherry pick a Devin Lloyd or a Jake Heaps and say that ratings don’t matter. However, those are the exceptions that prove the rule which is that rating the DRAFTABILITY…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Honest question: Urban Meyer hate? in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
imagine that you get to go into the way-back machine to 2002. Your football program has traditionally been below average in a below average conference. You’ve just fired a long-time coach who showed promise early but the program has stagnated under his watch. As far as national exposure, the only mention is when your school is mistaken for…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Interesting poll question on Twitter/X in the forum Football 1 year, 2 months ago
It would completely depend on the state of the roster. Urban likes taking over a squad that is ready for big things while 2025 Utah is looking like as close to a complete rebuild as 2017 Utah.
Off the top of my head, those exhausting their eligibility and/or potential draftees:
QB1
TE1
RB1
3 or 4 receivers
DT1, DT2, DT3
LB1, LB2, LB3
