2008 National Champ replied to the topic Spring ball starts tomorrow – What do want to see? in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
Lisfranc injuries have the potential to be career ending. That’s one that I wouldn’t want him to come back before necessary and there really isn’t anything to learn about Barton by having him participate in spring. Use the reps elsewhere and make sure he is able to heal completely.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic YES PLEASE! in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
The school that gets consistently left out of the conversation is Vegas. Yes, they don’t have historical success to fall back on. But it’s in one of the fastest growing markets in the country, has a shiny new NFL quality stadium and is probably the easiest and most popular travel destination in the country. They would be able to operate as a de…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Joel Klatt’s way too early preseason poll – Utah #8 in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
Yep. A healthy Rising guarantees that Utah will be in the mix for the top 133 of 2024.

Rising was 8-21 when he went down (38%)

Sure things could have been better for Utah if they had a healthy secondary. But don’t forget that Olave and Wilson sat out that game. How much worse could it have been?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Stewart Mandel's CFB Premier League in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
The groupings are definitely weird. Miami and Carolina with 5 Northern schools. Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin with the West Coast. Division C schools are all within a couple of hours from Atlanta so travel is the easiest.
Michigan State, Auburn and Oklahoma State feel superfluous for a National conference. But it doesn’t matter what the list is,…[Read more]

You couldn’t count on that guy for anything. Row all the way to Troy and he decides to sun himself on the beach instead of storming the castle.,,

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Court ruling in Tennessee means zero restrictions for NIL in the forum Football 1 year, 4 months ago
What seems to be lost in fan’s complaints, however, is the simple fact that the previous system violated the inherent rights of the student athletes. That is what the courts have ruled.
That’s not technically true. The O’Bannon case simply said that the NCAA and it’s member schools could not license a player’s NIL without compensating t…[Read more]

I’m of the opinion that the people who were unhappy with all of the day games in ’23 will be very happy with all the night games in ’24. ESPN will just rename it Big 12 After Dark and feature the four corner schools as much as possible in opposition to Fox putting the BIG west coast teams in those slots.
Again, my opinion only, but I believe…[Read more]

Am I remembering correctly and you work in media? Or is there a database that you are drawing from.
I’d say that Utah has/had the 4th or 5th highest profile in the Pac over the time period for the thread and that’s not a bad thing. I also feel like Utah had maximized their potential in that time. Oregon and even a bad SC are going to get the…[Read more]

I see Army and Navy on your above list. Their ratings are based on one game per year without any competition.
How are you handling sample size issues?

getting to play on network/espn/fox gets you higher viewership than the P12 network. Because there were 6 or 7 teams with national relevance in ’23, Utah got to play them on channels with higher viewership instead of being relegated to the conference network.
but sure, Utah found some secret sauce last year to increase their viewership…[Read more]

Yet another thing to blame on California. We were all perfectly fine with our heads in the sand, pretending that “student-athlete” was a real thing and that a recruit, once recruited, would stay on campus until he/she exhausted their eligibility. Then the California legislature passed NIL at the same time the NCAA – pressured by California -…[Read more]

I respectfully disagree. Had Utah won every bowl game since 2018 instead of the other way around, there would be people on here trumpeting Whitt’s record in bowl games. Just like they did prior to then.
If a stat is only to be considered relevant when it fits the narrative you want to present, the problem is the narrative and not the stat.
