How many times a day do you think Mama Bear calls him saying “you’re doing the right thing, honey”?

Really well done. On a related note, American Hustle is a really good movie.

I’m a fan of all things University of Utah – from the academics to the research to the athletics – and I always will be a fan. However, not being in the best possible situation would be devastating to all three aspects of the University.

So to answer the question: I will always be a fan, but in the general sense yes, it matters.

It used to be that teams would purposely build bad locker rooms for the visiting teams (I remember Ohio St. painted their visitor locker room pink), but today things are different. You want a really nice locker room for the visitors, because half their players are probably going to transfer after the season, so you want to make a good impression and maybe you can land one or two of them.

Tucson being formerly a part of Mexico has nothing to do with it being a shithole. More to do with 7th-circle-of-hell weather and zero entertainment options.

And Tuscon is basically a third-world country now.

A beatdown will not shut them up. They will just claim that they gave us the game.

This is an excellent post from top to bottom.

Conference affiliation has ramifications that go far beyond athletics. In fact, as a former U employee in the research field, I would argue that the educational/research benefits of being in the PAC12 are actually greater than the athletic benefits. I can say unequivocally that we would not be in the AAU if we weren’t in the PAC12.

Because of that, any conference realignment will be of significant interest to everyone at the U. It’s not just the athletic department’s business. This will get attention at the highest levels, including the Board of Regents. President or no President, I promise you that the U administration is all over this.

So…nothing? All sports involving human beings have politics involved.

To answer the original question, as someone who loves sports in general and not just the popular American sports, I’m happier than a pig in slop for the next three weeks. Right now I’ve got the Dalhausser/Lucena beach volleyball match on one TV, and a rousing fencing game on the other. How can you not like a sport where people stab each other?
