The PAC 12 was grossly mismanaged by the Presidents of the member institutions for years. They are the ones who enabled Larry Scott to lead the conference over the cliff to its death fall. Lots of blame to go around but it all has to start at the top with the Presidents who Larry Scott reported to.

  • You’re right Backer…I thought I’d be moving forward by now but I’m still feeling depressed about this new conference. The release of the schedule the other day was just another reminder of the major step backwards Utah has taken by being forced to join this conference.

  • for having to subsidize bottom feeder programs like BYU. Utah runs the league and is the only legitimate CFP contender…we should be compensated for carrying this sh*tty conference.

    Convince me I’m wrong.

I think undefeated is entirely possible this year with the way the schedule lines up. But it’s really tough for any team in any power league to go undefeated. IMO, I would expect us to slip up in 1 or maybe 2 games.

That said, I would say the floor for this year is 10-2, the expectation is 11-1, and obviously the ceiling is 12-0.

    I will say…[Read more]

I know Whitt has had a long-standing great relationship with Kevin Plank (founder of UA) and so I realize Utah will remain an UA school as long as Whitt is there. But the current agreement with UA is scheduled to run through 2027. I believe Whitt has gone on record as saying he wants to move on from coaching when he’s around 65 which would be in a…[Read more]

I realize things didn’t workout for JJ at QB ultimately. But I’m a little surprised we haven’t seen any RPO plays where JJ turns into a passer.

  • MDUte replied to the topic CAMERON RISING SIGNING EVENT in the forum Football 6 months ago

It seems like UA quality went down when they got into financial trouble a couple of years ago. UA was on run for many years of double digit growth and this also led to the huge signings of UCLA & Cal that ended up putting UA in over their heads. I might be way off base here, but when UA was flying high it seemed to me like they were also putting…[Read more]

  • Yes, the minor surgery he had was just to clean up his knee so he could play out his senior season. But I heard over on 247 that Wilson is going to need meniscus surgery on his knee after his senior year is done. Bartle at 247 was saying not to expect Wilson to be ready to go his freshman year as a result in terms of being able to win the QB1 job.…[Read more]

  • I love the idea of Cam starting his coaching career at Utah. He’d be so great as a young QBs Coach being able to relate to the players and help develop them in Ludwig’s system.

  • I’m of the opinion that there’s no reason to bring Cam back this season. We keep doing what we’re doing and likely get to 8 wins, maybe 9 (which would be amazing, all things considered). And then bring Cam back for one helluva final year next year. With Cam back a couple of things can happen. First, we’re instantly a top 10 team in contention to…[Read more]

Good point, I’ve never gotten the impression that Ludwig is much of a recruiter. And to be fair, it’s never really been Whitt’s forte either. Maybe it’s because they both come from that same generation of coaches going way back to their days together at Idaho St. But the top recruiting coaches for Utah are clearly: Scalley, Harding, Shah, and Swan.

I believe Bentley just came back from injury and was available for the Cal game. If I’m wrong on that please someone correct me.

  • MDUte replied to the topic Tight End in the forum Football 6 months ago

I, for one, think Ludwig’s a genius. How quick we all forget the 10 year revolving door of OCs. A number of those OCs have had success elsewhere but not one of them could work with and complement Whitt’s style and identity. Then back comes Andy and Utah instantly has one of the most productive offenses in the conference and we’re winning…[Read more]

  • I look forward to these interviews every week…so insightful! My 2 big take aways from today’s convo:
    1) Gabe Reid should be making his decision within the next 2 weeks. Utah is still high on his list and Brit’s best comparison to GR is Maxs Tupai. He said GR’s biggest thing (like most any other player) is just wanting to go where he feels the…[Read more]

Have we finally cracked the code on our offensive identity going forward? Ever since Whitt got Ludwig to return to Utah we’ve had great offensive teams IMO. However, this past season it seems that the 3 tight end sets Ludwig was able to scheme around have opened up something very exciting and new for Utah football going forward. And seeing that we…[Read more]
