I think the only thing off with your theory is that the SEC probably believes that they can continue to march with their current constituents and nothing will change. They probably believe that they have such an overwhelming advantage in football related matters that actually adding more programs to the conference dilutes the product.

That’s true, but it’s unharnessed athleticism. If he was as good as his potential indicates, he’d be getting twice the minutes and you wouldn’t be able to keep him out of the starting lineup.

I’m still trying to figure out where Saint John’s got the money to attract Smith. For example, it’s a much smaller school than Utah and its endowment is 2/3 of what Utah has. Maybe money wasn’t the deciding factor and what really weighed heavily was the possibllity of playing for a HoF coach that’s put a ton of guys into the NBA?
