I know longer go on twitter, but I assume Deivon has not posted his departure on twitter as I have not see it anywhere. Is he giving Utah a continued opportunity to come up with the money or has he decided he is leaving regardless?

I have no idea. I think this will be a kid, like Zach Wilson, who will have a great career at BYU. There are so many variables at play that while I think this is a great question, the only people who really know are the kid, his parents and to some extent the coaches.

This is going back a long way, but his father originally signed with BYU but did not qualify and had to go to Snow. After a great couple of years at Snow, he signed with Utah.

Utah Jazz is the dumbest, most incongruent name ever. The name stuck when the team move to Utah from New Orleans because the owner did not want to buy new uniforms.

I am guessing Burgess played a significant role in the recruitment of Jaxson Johnson who will be headed directly on a mission. I believe Johnson is the No. 2 rated Utah HS recruit this class. There are supposedly a number of highly regarded Utah recruits in the 2025 and 2026 classes.

Having said that, I believe mens basketball will be primarily built through the portal and not HS recruiting.

So many of these figures are meaningless without the details. For example, Utah sports pay rent to the University to play in both the Smith’s ballpark, Huntsman and RES (I don’t know about other facilities). Which other schools pay those fees? If they don’t pay rent, is that institutional support? Utah athletic department pays the costs associated with scholarships, including housing, food, etc. Do all schools do that? If the athletic department does not pay those costs but they are paid from general fund or some other university budget, is that included in institutional support?

I assume the years looked at included the Covid year. I believe the athletic department reported a $20-25 million difference between revenue and expenses, but offset that loss with monies from reserves.

I just don’t see any veteran QB better than Barnes being interested in transferring. If Rose were to transfer, I could see them looking to bring in an underclassman, but would that do anything to provide quality depth this year? Could you get a sophomore better than Rose? Maybe, but he would likely lack real game experience. I mean look at Nate Johnson. he transferred to that football power and QB factory Vanderbilt.

From the spring game it sounds like Wilson is likely the QB of the future. Starting a freshman/Sophomore QB makes recruiting quality QBs difficult as none of them want to sit around. We experienced that with Winn, Wilson and Snoop. The Rose injury a year ago impacted not only his progression but the position group as a whole.

Moroni is an interesting story. His family is in our LDS Ward in San Diego. His grandfather, Joe Cravens, was a QB at Utah in the early 60’s. He and Norm Chow were two of the first Hawaiians to play at The U. When Moroni was fairly young, his parents were both killed in a car accident. He and his 6 siblings were the raised by Joe and his wife. Joe and his wife also had 11 children of their own. Joe passed a couple of years ago. Moroni’s youngest sister, Ta’ase just left on an LDS mission. Four of Joe’s daughters have all died from cancer and two additional daughters are currently battling cancer. Despite the heartache they must have experienced, Joe and his wife (whose name escapes me) were always two of the most friendly, cheerful, giving people I have met. Joe’s wife is still living.
