The Florida game will be on ESPN prime time, which is a double bonus. The home opener against Southern Utah will be an 11:30 AM kick. Could be a little warm.

Physically we could use Lohner, but would he fit the culture Coach Smith is creating on the hill. These are just rumors I have heard, so take it for what they are worth, but one reason Lohner and the other guy jumped into the portal was because they did not get to start games down the stretch and had to come off the bench. They were not pleased in Pope’s decisions regarding playing time.

We remember quite recently the dismissal of Dusan Mahorcic because he became unhappy with playing time and did not buy into Coach Smith’s culture.

Don’t want to judge the kid, but there may be a red flag in this regard with Lohner.

Utah has historically been a match-up nightmare for Stanford. Since the Utes joined the PAC, they are 3-1 against Stanford.

        2013 – Utah 27 / Stanford 21 (Stanford Ranked 5th, upset game at home)

        2014 – Utah 20 / Stanford 17

        2017 – Stanford 23 / Utah 20

        2018 – Utah 40 / Stanford 21

Each game, with the exception of the 2018 game, has been close with the Utes finding a way to pull out the victory. Even though Stanford is down this year, they could still ruin the Utes path to winning the South. But because we tend to be a match-up nightmare for Stanford, the Utes have a good shot at winning this game by a close margin as history has dictated.

He more than broke his ankle, it was shattered with torn ligament damage on top of that. Let us hope he recovers from this and it doesn’t slow him up next year or prevent him from walking normal.

I too am a Bills fan, since the four-in-a-row Superbowl debacles.

This team struggled occasionaly during non-conference play and now that the real conference competition has begun, the team is not ready for the athletism, bigger players and faster players. Smith has Mountain West Conference players playing in the PAC12. Even Battin, Carlson, Gach and Thioune who have been part of PAC12 play through the past few years are not true PAC12 players. Coach Smith has never coached at this level and is quickly learning the desparity of talent between what he has recruited in the past and what he needs to recruit to compete in the PAC12.

It may take a couple of years, but if Coach Smith does not start understanding the type of talent to play and win the PAC12 through recruiting then we are going to have the same product for years to come. It all starts with recruiting and I hope Coach Smith is realizing this. Hopefully, he can get some PAC12 talent to come to Utah in the very near future.

At the game last night, sat behind one of the new player’s family, great people. A Both Gach discussion came up about his status and this player’s family stated that the Minnesota Gophers’ new coach won’t sign the letter of release for Gach to transfer to Utah. This is one of the major snags in clearing the NCAA transfer waivers.

If true, a first time head coach, Ben Johnson, is being pretty petty in ruining Gach’s chance to play this season. How does this help Minnesota’s basketball program? Obviously Gach is not going to be playing for Minnesota this year or in the future.

One thing to admire with Coach Larry K. was he did not imploy this tactic when players left the Ute program at a high rate knowing it can only bring negativity to the basketball program and recruiting. In addition to stumping the growth of a young athelete’s career.

Again, if true (I have no means to verify it), there is a chance Gach may not be playing this season and may have to wait until next year. Which would be a bummer because the Utes could really use him this season. Hopefully this all gets worked out and soon.
