Some on here have posted that Alex wants to be an NBA coach and will not consider Utah.  I do not know if this is true or not.  There are pros and cons to being a coach in the NBA or college.

      – A college coach has to grovel to recruit kids.  You have to be a salesman and after they get here you have to be a second father, tutor, and psychologist. I would not want to be a recruiter for the same reason I would not want to be a car salesman or a political lobbyist.

      – A college coach gets to be totally in charge and they get to be a teacher of young men interested in learning.  This is why Rick Majerus preferred college coaching.  He wanted to teach.  He tried the pros and hated it.

      – A pro coach does not have to recruit and typically doesn’t deal with the emotional issues of the players.  He does not have to worry about kids going to class and keeping their grades up.

      – A pro coach does a lot more traveling and has a hectic schedule.  Depending on the players – they really do not get to teach.  In most cases – the starters all make more money than the head coach.  Some players are prima donnas and difficult to deal with.  I remember Steve Kerr calling a timeout once and walking away from the team.  When asked why he said they don’t listen to me anyway.

There are pros and cons to being a college or NBA coach.  If Alex wants to teach and develop young men – being a college coach would be his best bet.  If he doesn’t want the hassle of recruiting, getting kids to classes, etc. – being a pro coach would be his best option.
