  • My thoughts
    – Gay
    – Carrington
    – A healthy Hansen
    – Possibly our punter
Outside of that, I don’t think there is anyone on our 2017 team who could start at Alabama.  Our D-line was suppose to be one of the best in the country, but they underachieved and Alabama has some studs on the D-line.  I think Johnson could start in the future, but…[Read more]

  • But, it will be interesting to see how it all works out.
I know Gary and Kyle are very good friends. I think Gary knows his place with KW. How will things with GA and Scalley work?  I don’t know the answer, but I hope it helps our defense, especially our defensive line.
    Go Utes

  • How many teams have done this?  I would think that there very few teams that could have done this because they wouldn’t play a team from their own conference.

  • I don’t think the offesnsive play calling was bad.  We just failed to execute.  Too many dropped passes, bad snaps and peoorly thrown balls when receivers were open.
    Oh well, we still dominated.

  • In the 1960s, Jack Garder recruited a kid from Georgia named Merv Jackson.  He was a two sport athlete.  One problem, Merv didn’t know how to read.  He was assigned a tutor and eventually leared to read and get his degree.  Merv Jackson was a key player on the 1966 Utah Final Four team.  He eventually played in the ABA and had a successful career…[Read more]

  • But, one four star recruit signing yesterday doesn’t make up for our failure to sign at least some of these in state kids.  Six in states kids signed with P5 schools.  Four of these kids are 4-star recruits.  Four of them are going to other teams in our conference.
I know many of you will try to spin this 100 different ways.  I am not trying to…[Read more]

  • Realistically, my expectations should have been lower because we had 8 players drafted into the NFL.  We are not Alabama or Ohio State.  We can’t lose so many players and expect to be as good.  But, I started to think with a new offensive coordinator that we may be okay.
Things that were a positive surprise:
    – Cornerbacks.  I like what I saw…[Read more]

  • Many news outlets are reporting that Fesi Sitake (OC at Weber) is a leading candidate for the BYU OC job.
I have known Fesi since he was 5 years old when his family moved into our neighborhood.  He was good friends with my younger sons.  He spent a lot of time at our house because there were 30 Tongans living in his house.  Fesi is a great…[Read more]

How do we expect to move the ball agaisnt an ASU defense that stopped one of the league’s best quarterbacks and running backs.  The ASU defense destroyed the UW offense.  We don’t have the talent that UW has on offense.  Why should things be different tomorrow?
I am not trying to be negative.  It’s an honest question.  I know ASU’s defense had…[Read more]

  • I like Gary.  He is a good man and helped advance Utah football to where it is today.  I wish him well.  If we had an opening at Utah, I would say we should consider him.  But, Morgan is now our guy.  He may end up at Ohio State.

  • Is there somethng we don’t know like Fitts and Anae being out?
Did the depth charts get released?

  • I don’t know that we can.  But, I think we can win if we prevent him from getting the big chunk runs that he has been racking up every week.  I think we need to try to contain him.  If he gets 5-8 yard runs – that may be okay.  If he starts breaking runs for 30+ yards – we will be in trouble IMO.  He is an amzaing running back and if we keep him…[Read more]

  • They are getting destroyed every week.
The same can be said for BYU an San Jose.
Im interested to see how we play next week against a good team. We certainly need to play better if we hope to win.

  • The good news is that Tuttle will also be visiting next weekend.  He has been an active recruiter for the Utes since he committed last January.  If you are a wide receiver, you would want to play 4 years with a guy like Tuttle.
Next weekend could be a very important weekend for the Utes in more way than one.

  • Because Huntley got injured, he is now pulling the “I told you so” card.  He says it was a normal sack.  I disagree, Huntley was running, tackled from behind and landed poorly on his shoulder.  Many if not most would have been injured.  It had nothing to do with his size.  Fitts has been hurt two weeks in a row.  Was it because he is too small?…[Read more]

  • It’s hard to asses our football team based of who we have played.  If you look at how these teams have perfomed the last few weeks, it’s not good.  North Dakota has been destroyed two weeks in a row and SJSU got demolished by a horrible USU team – an then there is BYU.
What does this all mean?  It means we have played very poor teams and at times…[Read more]

This year, Carrington says he is enjoying football again, crediting his renewed enthusiasm to the infrastructure in place at Utah.

My wife heard some nieghbors talking football yesterday.  One man is a huge BYU donor, like hundred of thousands.  The other guys said to him, “Saturday had to be brutal for you?”  The donor said, “No, we had a lot of fun because I expected we would get destroyed by Wisconsin.”
It reminded me of the mid 1970s.  My buddy and I bought season…[Read more]
