  • Remember – Reynolds saw time as a freshman – much like Fotu. There may be mission rust but the linebacker room is solid. Any more depth and you’d have players transferring – like Medlock did from last season when it became clear Fotu was ahead of him. The other Calvert brother transferred because he wanted playing time rather than be depth in our…[Read more]

The QB depth chart is consistent with what I’ve heard going into camp. I don’t know how much it means. That order could shuffle as camp progresses. Lots of good things being said about Huard.

I don’t know that our true freshman class adds a lot on the playing field this season. I don’t think that downgrades the class, I think it tells us how terrific our ones and twos are. Hunter Andrews, right now, is a linebacker. There is simply too much in front of him but he’s going to be a player. Davis Andrews is mission bound, if not already…[Read more]

I think quarterbacks are in trouble this season. I like our defensive ends but I love our tackles. They are as critical to the pass rush as the ends and I think most teams will have trouble creating a pocket for longer than Two Mississippi. I think the defensive line is the strongest position group – ahead of the wide receiver/tighten corps.

  • I like your questions Proud. I can give you definitive answers on Woods and Barton. Woods will not play this season due to an ACL injury. Barton is healthy and should pick up where he left off last season – one of the dominant linebackers playing college football.

I want Rising to be better than 2021 and he should be. That may be expecting a lot…[Read more]

  • Love the position group of the year add on – and from your lips to God’s ears.

  • If he stays healthy I vote for Connor O’Toole to tie Barton for defensive MVP. I also think that Tafuna will push for consideration on the defensive side.

Surprise player – Tao Johnson at safety

  • Another U of A vote here. That needs to be a butt-kickin’. Second for me will be Oklahoma State. I wish that I could travel there this season. Stillwater is a terrific college town during football season. Their fans are passionate and create one of the great college environments in college football.

By the way, if any of you are going to the game…[Read more]

  • Filinger is an interesting one. The body and athleticism are there. Injuries seem to be the excuse. I hope he’ll stay healthy and perform like he did against Washington State against Big 12 opponents. I do think the talent is in the room to give us more consistency on the edges and the tackles are good to great. I don’t agree with those that are…[Read more]

  • I can tell you that Andre’s interest is high. The U’s (Smith’s) is not.

  • Thanks Krindorr. I took a look at this list with my sons tonight. Lots of fun to see and track some Utes.

I’ve posted this before. Woods arrived at Utah with a partially torn ACL. I don’t know what has happened by way of surgery or not to repair the ligament. He played his final game at Idaho on the injured knee. I’m not sure that they (Idaho) knew how serious the injury was at the time.

I guess that I’m more positive than many on the board about Mitchell. I don’t think we saw near enough from him Saturday to sit in judgement. Reports I’ve received from practice are quite positive. To my eyes, there were no holes to hit yesterday on his runs. He still managed to follow blockers who got a strong push twice for first downs.

    Anyway,…[Read more]

    Come on Red,
Hope springs eternal. It’s part of being a Utah football fan.

Actually, I do think we have reason to be optimistic with Singer, Lyons and Pittman. Although, their success largely depends on a healthy Cam Rising. I noted something Vele said yesterday at the Pro Day. He spoke of a “vanilla offense” last year. That cannot be the case…[Read more]

I wonder about news on Woods – the runningback. Nothing in the press about him. Kyle was effusive about Mitchell and he named a few others. Is Woods injured? I would have expected something about him given his success last season.

What’s interesting is that the ACC would get a larger payout than the Big 12. Absolutely crazy.

  • The jubilation that day in the student section was special. Because of the offense, I thought we’d be in the game. What I didn’t expect was the aggression of the defense that day. Thanks for bringing back a sweet memory.

Game time decision – announced on by Bill Riley this afternoon.

  • Matt,
Perhaps the best setting for a stadium in college football. Washington on a beautiful day is quite a setting as well.

Like MD said, not a good actual stadium and I’ll take Utah’s game day over the Y’s, although I only get to a game once every other season or so. I understand the Y’s been working on the experience so I’m certainly not as…[Read more]

Yes Eagle – sorry, I get ahead of myself too often on the keyboard.

You are correct that Alex did a courtesy interview. I can also tell you that Harlan, under pressure of several key alums, tried for another conversation. Alex was so underwhelmed from the first interview that he declined.

That was tough to know at the time but no fault of Coach…[Read more]
