I had lunch with several of the players the Monday after the Utah game. They are mentally and physically checked out. They don’t want another month of practice. The bowl game will be fun but the extra month of prep or practice that has been touted is completely overrated and irrelevant. The players that have questionable health concerns are opting out of the bowl to get treatment. People close to the program know they qualified through a contractual agreement with espn. That doesn’t mean next year won’t be great or the players don’t want to get better. This year has simply been emotionally and physically taxing as independence brings and a lot of folks are ready to close the chapter on this season.
