Why in the world do they have to go for two-point conversion attempts after two overtimes? That’s really unfair because it puts a s**t load of pressure on the teams to score on their first play. There’s a reason why teams don’t go for two very often unless they absolutely have to: BECAUSE TWO-POINT ATTEMPTS ARE EXTREMELY UNSUCCESSFUL USUALLY. There’s no way Utah goes for two on their last touchdown tonight if they didn’t have to. They had all the momentum (as they had just overcome a two touchdown lead in like four minutes), and said momentum likely would have carried over into overtime. I HATE the college overtime rules BTW. They change the game back to a level playing field for no reason. Especially in that third overtime, where the outcome of one play per team literally either ends or prolongs the game. At least give them four downs to score. If they are worried about injuries, just freaking let the games finish tied! Why is that so horrible? If one team isn’t superior to the other on a particular day, let them finish tied! The NFL does it ALL THE FREAKING TIME. IMHO, the NFL overtime rules are FAR SUPERIOR to their college counterparts. Make teams kick off and have to go the length of the field for scores. This bulls**t of arbitrarily putting the ball on their opponent’s 25-yard line is ridiculous. Put in the NFL rule! If a team scores a touchdown on their first possession (the “golden” score), the game instantly ends. If not, it continues on for a set amount of time, and if neither team gains the lead after that extra period (even if it is just a field goal or safety), the game is declared a tie. Why is that so unacceptable at the college level? You could even put in a point system, similar to hockey or soccer, in that you get 3 points for a win and 1 for a tie (or similar) and the team at the end of the season with the most points wins their divisions/leagues. That would be a far better system than the ridiculous crap Utah had to go through last night.

NFL overtime rules are dogwater, they just need to go back to the original college OT rules

I don’t think that there ever were original college rules. If neither team had the lead at the end of the game, it was just declared a tie. The NFL rule is actually superior because it only allows for a specific amount of extra time for teams to play, unlike the college rules, which theoretically could cause games to go on forever. That’s what leads to additional injuries, which often come when human beings are exhausted. I was actually kinda relieved tonight when Redding missed that extra point. This was the case because had he hit it, making Utah only down by 7 instead of 8, I had a feeling that they would have tried to take the lead with a stupid two-point conversion attempt after the potentially game-tying touchdown. I’ve watched too many teams lose games when they didn’t need to doing that. Once he missed the first PAT, said scenario was eliminated because Utah was then forced to have to score a touchdown and get the 2-point conversion just to tie the game (an instance when teams should go for two to the lay person).

The new format of one single play from the 3-yard line is sort of like using penalties to decide a soccer match.  But at least soccer allows regular season and group play matches to have ties, using penalties only for “knockout matches”
