At the moment it is possible at the public universities especially given Whitt’s tenure. Jimmy Lake was a bargain hire at UW, CP was making more than Whitt. WSU isn’t paying Rolovich what they were paying Leach. Colorado has a cap placed by the legislature that also controls assistant coaches payment structure. Sumlin’s albatross of a contract is gone but it was only 3.5 mil. Herm and Chip both had 3.5 million dollar 1st contracts that they are still on. Stanford and USC do not disclose but my guess is they are both north of the 5 mil that Whitt makes.
Whitt’s first contract was 675k per year. What a difference 15 years makes.
