What isn’t shown in the clip too is that she was behind 1-2 in the count early. She battled back to a full count before blasting the same rising pitch that she had whiffed on earlier to start the at bat. Watching it live, it was one of the most thrilling Ute sports moments I’ve seen from any sport.
What am I missing? It looks like the ball is well short of the wall. Does it bounce off the higher wall? I’m not really a softball or baseball guy but glad to see any Utes doing well.
The blank wall above the outfield fence (same plane in this stadium) is called a batter’s wall or batter’s eye. It’s there so the batter can see the pitches, but it’s considered beyond the ball field. The ball hits it and bounces back into the field of play, so it’s a HR.
