Dumb question about helmets

Every time we unveil new helmets is the team getting a whole additional set of helmets, or are they simply taking some existing helmets and repainting them??

pretty sure all the different base colors are different sets of helmets and the decals can be interchanged. Then there are also the hand painted designs, and word if there will be a hand painted design this season?

Normally they’ll use the same hand painted helmet for two years. The only exception I can think of was the USS Salt Lake. So this year they’ll probably use the Aaron Lowe/Ty Jordan helmets again.

IIRC, every year has had a new hand-painted design since they started, except the COVID season:

2016: Blackout D&F
2017: “Throw up your U”
2018: Red-tailed hawk wings
2019: 1960s Throwbacks
2020: COVID
2021: USS SLC
2022: Ty and Aaron

I don’t like black in our color scheme, voiced that before. But that 2016 helmet is my favorite behind the Rose Bowl helmets, that helmet is bada$$.

I agree with you on black being in our color scheme. I very much prefer, for standard uniforms, just red and white.
