RES margin of victory — day vs night

That UCLA Carlos guy ran the numbers, and it confirms what we already knew; going back to 2011, here’s the average home margin of victory in day (4pm kick or earlier) and night (7pm kick or later):
Day: +1.7
Night: +9

Note that this data excludes recent 5:30 November kicks such as 2021 Oregon (38-7) and 2019 Colorado (45-15). Those were absolutely night games, so the difference is actually larger than what is displayed here.

You’re so right. There’s a huge difference in atmosphere between day and night games. Even with the late hours getting home, I much prefer going to night games.

Doesn’t necessarily mean we play better at night. When you get selected for a day game it usually means you are playing better competition. You have to see the strength of opponents on day vs night games to make an actual conclusion on the difference

I do know that our FCS games are almost always day games, so you’d think that would skew it toward day.

Also, Carlos ran numbers for the rest of the pac. Utah and Washington have the highest differential from day to night. The Arizona schools and Oregon actually have a better differential during the day
