      10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2…   #1 Clark Phillips and Jaylon Glover

      Clark is a key player in the Utes defensive backfield.  In 2021 he logged 63 tackles (1.0 TFL), 15 passes defended (13 PBU, 2 INT) and two forced fumbles, earning Pac-12 All-Conference and AP All-Pac-12 2nd Team.  He is one of just three Pac-12 players with two or more career pick-sixes (2).  Clark joined the Utes in 2020 and started all 5 games recording 5 total tackles (2.0 TFL), a fumble recovery and three passes defended (1 INT, 2 PBU).   Clark is a graduate of La Habra HS in Lakewood (Orange County) California.  At La Habra he was two-time All CIF, 2019 Orange County Defensive Player of the Year and three-time 1st-Team All-County.  His senior season he racked-up 28 tackles, 18 passes defended (7 broken-up, 4 INTs), plus, on ohfense, 30 receptions for 435 yards (14.5 ypc) and 10 TDs.

      For 2022, Clark is switching jerseys from #8 to #1, and is on several awards watch lists, including Bednardnik, Bronko Nagurski, and Jim Thorpe Award, also named Preseason 1st Team Pac-12 All-Conference (by several sources), 2nd Team Preseason All-American by AP, Athlon, Walter Camp, and PFF.

      Jaylon Glover, Freshman RB, 5-7 207

      Jaylon is a highly regarded true freshman RB from Lake Gibson HS in Lakeland, Florida.  In his senior year he recorded 272 carries for 2,073 yards (7.6 ypc, 9 100+ yard games) and 26 TDs, earning Class 6A Player of the Year and Lakeland Ledger’s All-County Big School Offensive Player of the Year, among other accolades. Over his career with the Braves he amassed 6,096 total rushing yards, 80 TDs and 32 100-yard rushing games.  For the 2022 opener, the Utah coaches have listed 4 players as possible #1 backs, including Glover.  Considering the prowess and experience of the other 3, this is a major accomplishment for Glover.  Honestly he’s probably back number 1-d, but likely will see playing time in 2022.
