I think a big problem was that before Travis got here the cupboard was bare. When Jordan Wynn went down Utah was forced to turn to a raw, inexperienced, true freshman QB. After that, Utah’s fate was essentially sealed.
By giving the reins to the Freshman they made it very hard on themselves to not have him start the next 4 years because he was the “incumbent” QB going into spring/fall camp every year. If anyone was going to get the starting job away from TW it was going to be Kendal Thompson, but he just didn’t quite perform well enough to do it.
It was always very unlikely they would allow any of the underclassmen a chance to start over both Wilson and Thompson. We really do not know what we have in Brandon Cox or what we may have had in some of the other QBs that transferred.
Thats why this spring will be so exciting. Despite what the coaches said in the past, we will have a true and open QB battle.
