16 Bryson Barnes, Sophomore QB, 6-1 206
Ute fans will remember Bryson coming in for Cam Rising in the 4th Q during the Rose Bowl; he did a great job leading that drive for the Utes’ final TD (2-2 passing with 1 TD). He had played in 2 other contests for the Utes in 2021. Bryson was originally a walk-on in 2019. He came to the Utes from Milford HS where he waas 3-time All-State and MVP of State 1A in his Junior year. He owns the state record for career touchdown passes at 137 and capped his career with 244-of-404 passing for 3,533 yards and 39 TDs in 2019. He also had 625 rushing yards (181 carries) and 16 rushing TDs his senior year. He played defense at Milford as well, compiling& 115 tackles and 4 INTs over his tenure with the Tigers. He will likely be competing with JQ Jackson for the backup QB role in 2022.
Zemaiah played in 13 games for the Utes in 2021, starting 4. He recorded career-high 5 tackles at Stanford and Oregon State, and had 2 other 3-tackle outings. Zemaiah started as a walk-on in 2020, and then played in 4 of 5 games that season; one highlight was an INT at the Utah goal line he returned for 73-yards. He came to the Utes from Beaumont United HS in Beaumont, TX, near the Texas Gulf Coast east of Houston. At Beaumont he played QB for the Timberwolves; his senior season he had 854 passing yards and 8 TDs, plus 1,049 rushing yards. His brother, Zach, is also on the team, a transfer WR. Zemaiah an injury in the Pac-12 Championship game, but is expected to see playing time at CB along with 5 other returning corners in a deep DB room.
