2008 National Champ replied to the topic Predicting 2024 Utah Football Season (based on SP+) in the forum Football 2 months ago
It’s Baylor for me, just like it was last year. That’s the game best set up for a relatively easy win. 5 weeks of camp to prep, scrimmage week 1 to knock the rust off, and a coach on the warm seat who just changed his entire staff.
A low stress win against Baylor would signal that the team is capable of double digits. Struggling like they…[Read more]

don’t be lazy 🙂
(otherwise I’d have to sim EVERY team’s seasons to see how they all change as well)
That’s a tough over to hit. Utah has only done so once since entering P5 competition (2019). If I was a betting person, I’d probably put a small wager on the under while rooting for the over. But Utah just isn’t a good bet for this year. Sa…[Read more]

hopalong is going to be a minor participant in spring ball. even if he wasn’t 14 months post surgery, there’s nothing to learn by having him run drills. Whitt already blew one season throwing all his eggs in that basket, there’s not a chance in hell that he takes the bubble wrap off before Labor Day weekend now that he’s doubled down.

2014 would have been the only season that counted and Dres only played 6 games. If the range included 2013, he would absolutely be on the list
2008 National Champ replied to the topic All-Decade Utes (2014-2023): UPDATED in the forum Football 2 months ago
If just talking nickel, I’d put Guidry over Vaki’s 4-5 games there.
Blackmon was so much better at Free than Corner that I might move him there. Or put Chase at Safety since he played multiple years there and there really isn’t a shortage of excellent LB’s.
I think if looked in combination, I’d rather have Blackmon (FS)/ Hanson (SS) / Bernard…[Read more]

it’s all opinion so I’m disagreeing without really disagreeing.
If the criteria was that being good for only one season gets you downgraded, Ellis shouldn’t be on the list over Dimick.
Lander is a head scratcher on 1st team over both Norris and Gionni who each played roughly the same number of games. That feels more like anticipating his…[Read more]

A lot of recency bias in a last decade team?
Norris, Dimick, Mokofisi, Gionni, Lowell.
Jackson Barton excelled at both tackle spots. BAM was a turnstile at RT and had half of a good season at LT.
Vaki over Blechen?

Yep, back to the good old days of the 50’s – 70’s where the big schools routinely had close to 150 “scholarship” athletes.
2008 National Champ replied to the topic Ranking total NIL spend in the forum Football 2 months, 1 week ago
It shouldn’t be overlooked that there is a majority on the academic side at most universities who believe that athletics waters down the mission. The prospect of turning athletes into employees may just be the cudgel they need to shut down athletic departments.
The entry requirements for athletes is universally lower than it is for the greater…[Read more]

when it goes to P2, why would those schools limit themselves to only 100? Their concern at that point will not be propping up the schools that were left behind

As an analyst, he can’t coach or recruit. However, he would be in perfect position to take over as an offensive coach should a spot become available. Could the hire be a signal that Whitt is bringing in people that Scalley wants after the transition?

even for hyperbole, that went a bit far. The conference you are disparaging just threw you a lifeline while your previous conference was imploding around you and gave you a better deal than the previous 4 teams it admitted.
2008 National Champ replied to the topic Locked on Big 12 Utah Season Predictions in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago
9-3 seems like a reasonable over/under considering all of the new opponents and assuming return to health. In the PAC maybe you had two new HC’s/programs a year to face, otherwise you were pretty much dealing with the same schemes from year to year which has been a luxury. 6 opponents on the 2024 schedule that Utah has either never faced or…[Read more]
2008 National Champ replied to the topic 2024 schedule – Hot off the press in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Narf is correct. There were a number of PAC/Big 12 games on the schedule for 2024 and not all of them could be eliminated or incorporated into the conference schedule. The Utah / Houston game became a conference game as did Utah / parochial school. Utah / Baylor stayed as a non-con so that Utah would not have to find two new opponents.
K State…[Read more]

The extra bye week is a function of the Labor Day / Thanksgiving timing where there are 14 weeks this year as opposed to the usual 13. All teams will go back to one bye week in 2025.
