completely on the offense?
The first drive after Utah scored to make it 10-16 in the 4th quarter, the defense twice had Arizona in 3rd and 11 situations. The first ended up with a 41 yard completion. The 2nd ended up with a 35 yard TD catch.
No one is claiming that the 2024 offense was anything but putrid after the 1st quarter of the Baylor…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic How to recruit players to transfer in the forum Football 2 days, 10 hours ago
It isn’t tampering. NIL deals, be definition, are not based on a kid attending a specific school. That would be pay-to-play which is illegal under the NCAA bylaws. NIL deals can follow a kid to whatever school he chooses. So potential interest can be couched as “boy, if you were in this market we think you could maximize your NIL much more so…[Read more]

You can set your watch by it. Just like the “this is the year the receivers are going to be difference makers” every spring

Isn’t BYU the BYU of College Football?

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Did we offer Ojo cash? in the forum Football 1 week, 2 days ago
They are not the same. The 20.5MM comes directly from the school. NIL is from outside vendors and is not influenced by the school *wink wink*
Think of Patrick Mahomes. He gets his salary from the Chiefs and then gets NIL from companies like State Farm. The difference at the college level is that Bob’s Used Car Emporium is making deals with…[Read more]

Roughly equivalent to telling your high school girlfriend that of course you’d be together forever.

The height isn’t really the issue, whether just under or just over 6 feet. 165 pounds won’t play at the P4 level

5′ 11 1/2″, 165 lbs.,, cue the Jordan Wynn, Tyler Huntley every year injury flashbacks

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Big 12 pushing a single portal period in the forum Football 1 month, 2 weeks ago
I just don’t think that the timing of the portal window(s) or how long they are open matter. Until the underlying problem of neither school nor player having any binding contractual commitment to each other gets fixed, you could have a one day a year window on June 1 or a 6 month window from April to the end of September and you will see roughly…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Projected Depth Chart? in the forum Football 1 month, 4 weeks ago
I’m projecting Hall to make a Devin Lloyd type leap from 1st to 2nd year and with his throw game skills should allow Snowden to move outside since the nickel won’t be as necessary.

2008 National Champ replied to the topic My spring prediction in the forum Football 2 months ago
I don’t think I know enough about this year’s team to make a prediction so I’m staying out of that game.
I do wonder why people think that the number of transfers Utah will be counting on this season to make big impacts is a positive but then use the reliance on transfers as a reason why other schools will lose to Utah. Haven’t we all convinced…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic John Canzano on Locked on Utes in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Rick, I think you’re making my point with the 2020 injury. Whitt didn’t have to announce Rising’s injury, but it was made clear that it was season ending. We all moved on to the next option instead of speculating on when QB1 would be back.
Counter that with 2023 where after 4 weeks of “he’s splitting 1st team reps” and “we’re doing everything…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic John Canzano on Locked on Utes in the forum Football 2 months, 2 weeks ago
I’m not sure that’s necessarily true about making his life a living hell, but if it was it was enabled by the way his injury and his previous injury were handled. Both in 2023 and 2024 the word from Whitt and the rest of the staff was that he was always a game-time decision. And since a “large group of our fan base” takes every word that comes…[Read more]

Just goes to show that if the goal is to make it to the league, you should go at your first opportunity. Kuithe and Rising should have both gone after 2021 and would have been mid-rounders

I think you’ve found the secret sauce: teams who are winning are happy and enjoy playing together while teams that are losing do not. 🙂

2. A coach leaving a program has a far greater effect on the program, both positive and negative, than any individual player. Rather than making kids sit out a year when you don’t have the same requirement for coaches, attach a buyout clause to the contracts everyone is expected to sign starting this fall so that you at least get something in…[Read more]

2008 National Champ replied to the topic Former 5-star WR to make a visit to Utah in the forum Football 2 months, 3 weeks ago
I had to keep dropping the dividing line just to get the list that big. Over the course of a 12 game season, those benchmarks would equate to 4.1 catches and 58 yards per.
For comparison with other former Pac-12 schools, to get the same list of 22 you have to go back to (2013 would average 2 per season):
Arizona – 2009 (The RichRod offenses…[Read more]
