ParticipantQuote from Whitt:
“Smith Snowden is looking good on offense,” Whittingham said. “That’s been a good addition for us. And Lander Barton’s doing some good things on offense, so we’ve got a lot of options right now.”
I know some on here do not like guys coming over from the defense. I like it if done sparingly and in the right situations.

ParticipantThanks for sharing. The wr group is the group im most interested in given the unknowns. The thing that seems inconsistent is whitt saying the group is making huge strides and at the same time snowden is taking snaps at wr. Seems like if the wr crew was a strength, we would t be seeing snowden and perhaps other out of position wrs.

ParticipantI don’t have a problem with players that are dialed in to their primary position to the point of being considered for all conference getting some run on offense. It can be a reward, it can be a benefit to attracting other top talent, some players can handle more than 50% of the plays. I think coaches are smart enough to see a negative impact and make a correction.

ParticipantThanks for posting. Good article. I also saw an interview with Merriwether and he said the offense was simple and similar to his past offenses. No more “ he hasn’t grasp the offense yet” after 2 years.

Participant“Years” being the last 2. Which 2 does qualify as “years”, it is the bare minimum to qualify.
And as has been said in other posts, last year Beck did run more than pass even in an uptempo offense. Which is a common misconception people have even thinking of Oregon and Chip Kelly. I’m Not comparing the 2 directly, but just saying.

ParticipantAnother thing to remember will be, patience. We fans will need to be patient as there will be growing pains. No matter how great or bad Coach Scalley ends up being, no matter how many years of experience he has, there will be adjustments and growing he will learn and go through.
I mean it’s not like any of us on this board ever overreact ………..

ParticipantThe only way to make BYU-Provo Campus a true missionary tool is to drop intercollegiate athletics altogether. Let’s face it: Sports bring out the worst in people. And – for better or for worse – the LDS Church will always be judged by the behavior of its members. If we’re truly thinking about our missionary purpose, why would we want to create situations for church members to be on their worst behavior…and put it on national TV for everyone to see?
BYU-Provo Campus could also help its image by putting a little more emphasis on academics and little less emphasis on being a marriage meat market, but that’s a subject for a different thread.

ParticipantYou mean Jake Troll. He kisses BYUs ass because it gives him ratings. Every headline is anti Utah or pro BYU which in both cases draw in BYU fans.

ParticipantI tell my BYU fan friends that if they want BYU athletics to be a true “missionary tool” that they should really be targeting BYU to be not “excellent” in athletics, but “above average” in athletics. This because I think that BYU is most “loveable” to non-Mormons when they play the part of the scrappy and charismatic overachiever. If BYU were to become a “blue blood powerhouse” ala Bama, Ohio State, etc. etc., then they will appeal to only their fanbase. Look at lists of the “most-hated” CFB teams. They are all blue blood B10/SEC teams.
In fact, I think that an interesting doctoral thesis at BYU would be to study how many doors in Utah LDS missionaries get through during spans when Utah wins in the rivalry game vs. years when BYU wins. My guess is that there could be a slight increase in missionary success when Utah fans feel a little “sorry” for BYU and the missionaries. Probably there is no statistical difference, but I like to believe that BYU having a pedestrian sports record equals better missionary success.
