Seems a little small, but you can’t argue with his results last year. With a better O-line and potentially more talent around him (potentially is the key word here), you’d hope he’d continue to grow as a passer and rely less on his legs. I think 3k yards passing at a 60-65% clip and 500 running puts him right on par with the QB that won two P12…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Our QB and RB rooms are empty in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
Wide open for a top transfer to come in and get reps.
I’m not worried. I think we’ll get a good qb transfer, a grad transfer backup, and the two incoming guys. Four is plenty 😉
Same equation for Rb. We have Mitchell (so far) and I have this feeling that woods isn’t going to find a better deal or situation. I guess that’s assuming he doesn’t…[Read more]

I’m pretty sure they just said on the radio that he’s Singer’s half brother.

J Rocksville started the topic Random thought about the impact of modern college football on the NFL.. in the forum Football 6 months, 3 weeks ago
With the transfer portal fast becoming the path for building competitive teams, the need for stripped down and streamlined offenses (and probably defenses, but we hear more about the offenses) that allow transfers to learn it quickly and execute has become more important. Are outgoing QB’s and other offensive talent going to be heading into the…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Wonder what Scalley is thinking in the forum Football 6 months, 4 weeks ago
Who says he was involved in not hiring? Or that Whitt shut down those hires? Just because you offer someone a job, doesn’t mean they have to take it.
There are plenty of reasons Arbuckle would prefer Oklahoma over Utah, and Leftwich may want to stay closer to home and the recruiting grounds he’s more comfortable with.
It’s also possible I…[Read more]

I thought I heard he wasn’t much loved when he left here. Could be wrong, and who knows what actually goes on behind those doors. I’d still be surprised to see him back here. I’d guess something like Fresno St closer to home.

J Rocksville replied to the topic The Ute football program nees to be rebuilt. in the forum Football 7 months, 2 weeks ago
I don’t know that “rebuilt” is the right term. It definitely needs a reset, but I think the idea of Utah “culture” needs to remain and somehow find a way to adapt to survive in the modern landscape of college athletics.
I also don’t think any of us fully understand the nature of the U’s NIL deals. It’s easy to assume that the X amount of money…[Read more]

Some of the best and wildest parties I went to in college, 20 years ago, were in provo. It was a strange scene though, because most of the time the girls would put their clothes back on once someone showed up with alcohol ha ha. When they would come north, the lds kids would absolutely rage… Until other lds kids showed up.
I knew a girl from…[Read more]

I also am routing for Rose to get a shot. We’ve heard over the years that he has arm talent, and he’s certainly bigger and older. A couple weeks of first team snaps and some tweaks to the scheme and maybe we can field an offense that can put 20-25 points on the board. That’s at least something and would give us a shot against most teams the way…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Utah @ Colorado gets the big noon game in the forum Football 7 months, 4 weeks ago
Great, we can get embarrassed in front of a bigger audience.
Let’s only hope that we show up renewed and reenergized against BYU and can at least be competitive for the rest of the season.
I personally have some hope that age and time in our program have given Rose a touch more poise, and with a couple weeks of taking snaps and some tweaks to…[Read more]

I also think he’ll get another shot, or take a Lane Kiffin route and land at a Georgia or Alabama type program, run their offense for a year or two until a HC job opens up that he likes, and jump.

J Rocksville replied to the topic Stealing signs…by radio? in the forum Football 8 months ago
I swear I saw some quotes from the team that tcu seamed to know what we were going to do every play. At the time it was an indictment of how predictable our offense is, but maybe they really did know the plays.

J Rocksville replied to the topic Holy war in the forum Football 8 months ago
I see something like 20-13 or 24-13 BYU. I just don’t think we have enough offense to expect more than 1 touchdown, and it’s probably a toss up whether that TD comes from the O or the D. If we can get one from each, and a couple field goals, maybe we have a shot.
With our D, I’d be pretty surprised if we got ran off our own field though. Oooh,…[Read more]

If Huard plays in 4 games, does he still have availability for next year?
If so, he should get a shot. If he loses his last season of eligibility, that seems like a messed up thing to do to a player. I don’t think he’d do anything for his career by playing out the last 4 games of a burner season.

J Rocksville replied to the topic Rose in the forum Football 8 months ago
I’m the furthest thing from a football expert, but everything about Rose looked bigger/stronger/faster. That’s obviously only a small part of the equation, but his passes had more zip and he didn’t look physically overmatched by everyone around him.
Maybe both of those guys leave, but I’d bet there is a more seasoned qb to be had in the…[Read more]

J Rocksville replied to the topic Will committed recruits stay committed? in the forum Football 8 months ago
I think what will happen is offensive recruits will probably be apprehensive about signing without knowing who the coach or what the scheme will be. We’ll get a new OC and he’ll have to plug and play through the portal while we recruit the athletes for his system.
I mean, this seems like how it works everywhere else now.

J Rocksville replied to the topic My simple thoughts about Utah football in the forum Football 8 months, 2 weeks ago
Who’s expectations? Yours? Or the coaching staff? I suspect the coaching staff preaches to the players not to get too far ahead of themselves because a lot of things can happen in a long season, and expectations can derail a season. I think that’s good advice for fans as well.
I think the coaching staff has only said that this team has as much…[Read more]

I don’t know that I’ve seen mentioned, but I think the fact that ASU stormed the field after beating us is a good indication about what other teams and fanbases think of our program. It was a big deal for them to beat us. Utah. 20 years ago if you had said a P5 program like ASU would storm the field after beating us in an off year, I think you…[Read more]
