Rewatched this clip of JQJ’s highlights again today. Without question, he’s the dream QB1 for me. Just think how we’d be if he was a 4 year starter. I realize Brewer is a proven commodity but it’s hard to get excited about another 1 and done grad transfer.

JQJ is a runner who can throw and Costelli is a passer who can run. Goodness me it is so great to be a Ute!

I just worry he’ll leave if he doesn’t get significant playing time this season. He was vocal about Ty being a big reason why he decided to come here. Hopefully he’ll build other relationships here that help keep him around.

He will most likely move down to d end.  Brewer and rising will battle it out for this years starting qb and then we will see how fast costelli can develop.

Why not have Costelli and JQJ on the field at all times? We could have JQJ as a slot or all purpose back and our massive running backs with Costelli as a running passer.

The offense sure is going to get creative to get all these guys touches.

Even better, use JQJ as a wildcat QB.  He clearly is too good a runner out of the QB delay to not use this.  He has good enough passing skills to be more of a threat to pass than many wildcat QBs.  He should compete for QB1, however, he should be a key part of the Offense however the QB competition finishes up.  With the QB talent we have the ability to master two styles much better than opponents can prepare for two styles.

Interesting ideas to get our talent on the field. But I still believe JQJ needs to be our QB1 going forward. Give him all the reps and development needed to take us to heights we haven’t yet reached. If he’s not QB1 this year then IMO he needs to be QB2 so we don’t risk losing him. And if QB1 is not JQJ, then I hope it’s Rising with Brewer as our QB3 and Costelli redshirting. Brewer should be our insurance policy if we lose JQJ and Rising to injury.

If going with Brewer as QB1 guaranteed us to win the conference and go to the Rose Bowl then we’d all agree that Brewer is our guy. But that seems highly unlikely. And so if it is highly unlikely, I’d argue why not invest the year of reps/experience on our future (JQJ or Rising)?
