  If Alex wasn’t interested in the job, he would have already turned it down by now. So I guess it’s a good sign that he’s still in play. My guess is either he is holding out for more money from the U or the Jazz are trying to offer him more money to stay. I think the appeal to return to your alma mater and run your own program sounds very tempting to Alex. Also, Coach K coached for 10 years and ran a very average program. If Alex can figure out a way to get us 10-20% more wins, he can stay as long as he wants.
  
  I just wonder who Harlan has for his backup if Alex decides to stay with the Jazz.
  
  Hopefully we hear something today. I’m sick of refreshing Twitter every 30 seconds.

      I hope this is tongue in cheek. Sure, the Jazz have never won a title, they are in the top 1-5 this year though. I don’t think anyone knows what will happen, Jazz are far from out of it though. Am I am homer, yes. The numbers also support this though.

        Jazz had the all time leading scorer and best pure PG ever. Then ran into the GOAT to lose a championship once after having the best regular season record.
        Playoffs matter though. I don’t think they have the ability to beat Leonard or Lebron. They even blew it against the Snuggies with a three game lead last season.

        According to Mitchell and Gobert they can’t even get calls against Simmons and Embiid. Playoff calls are huge and it has been something I have watched for years. Even though I know Stockton and Malone benefited for years with dirty play. Come playoff time a different whistle emerges. NBA is the WWE of Basketball.

        Magic Johnson was the best PG to play the game. But he was kind of a freak of nature at the position.
        
        Little guys that are like floor generals. I put Stockton, Thomas and Payton in that category.
        
        Modern era guys like Curry or Harden are just different. Kind of like stretch Centers.

  It’s possible but also possible we are just waiting to interview other candidates as their season ends. Not a ton of openings this year so it doesn’t hurt to be thorough.

    Playing devils advocate… why would Alex want the Utah job .. he has a Cush job with the jazz , stability and a chance at taking the reins if and when Quinn leaves or any other NBA job that comes up , for that matter .. he’ll be in the league a long time if he wants .. compared to inheriting a mess. dealing with retention and recruiting every year and all the other crap that come with being a college head coach … so objectively..I am just curious to know what makes the Utes head coaching job so appealing ?

      There’s several reasons why being head coach at Utah is better than the nba. He will make at least as much, and probably significantly more, in his first contract than a hypothetical NBA head coaching position.
      
      In the NBA his first HC job would more than likely be a a very bad team, so the player attrition would be worse than college recruiting. Unless you get lucky and your first job is with the Nets.
      
      Recruiting is mainly done by your assistants. Alex would close.
      
      He will get a lot more time at Utah than in the NBA to make the utes a winner. Example 1 is Boylen in Chicago.
      
      Even if he fails at Utah an assistant position in the NBA will always be waiting for him, with $10mm+ in the bank.
      
      And finally, if he wins at Utah, goes to the tournament 4/5 years, gets to the Sweet 16 a couple times, and hopefully further once or twice he’s set for 10+ years. Win a national championship and he’ll have a statue at his alma mater.
