UFN final status?

  This is kind of weird to type out, but I just had a thought that may or may not apply. Guess it depends on what happens with control of the site, but…
  
  It’s about that time of the month when UFN mysteriously goes “offline” and it doesn’t seem like it will get saved this time. So unless it is changing hands, this may be your last chance to see the site. I don’t know if I am being overly sentimental, but considering how this is ending I felt like it might be a good idea to say something to everybody, like to say final goodbyes or something. I’ve been a regular visitor of other sites that disappeared, and it bothered me more than it should have when they left.

  I know there is a effort by his family to get UF.N back up and running. They have a family friend working with Xmission to access the hosting account. They seem to want to preserve it. There was a post on Chris’s facebook wall about it, but his profile has been taking down since.

    I hope they have someone or will contract someone to actually put some effort into reviving it. Right now I see the site as, with perhaps some insensitivity, a zombie. It’s like looking at a Geocities page circa 2009.

  I miss it but I can’t help but wonder how many would go back to it at this point. The activity had already dwindled dramatically. Would it be like putting spoiled milk back in the fridge and expecting it to get fresh again? Time will tell…maybe.

  I would be willing to attempt to archive/preserve the posts here as a sort of web museum, if I could get my hands on the database.
  
  For them to get it back running would take quite an effort from a skilled web/php developer. I can’t imagine someone like that taking on that kind of project for free. Daily, monthy mainteance would also be something they would have to consider. And none of that concerns a possible modernization/redo of the site.
